"Hey, Akira. Are you alright? You look kind of pale," Yui said worriedly. She pressed a cool hand to Akira's forehead. Akira mustered a smile and shook her head. "Me? I'm fine. Just a little tired." Yui looked at her worriedly. "Oh, okay. But if you need anything, tell me."
Akira nodded and stood from her seat. "I'm going to get a drink." She fetched her briefcase as quickly walked out of the classroom. Her life was such a mess. She was suppsed to be helping Yui cope with being a walking, talking bloodbag now, not the other way round. Yui was still blissfully unaware of the sacrifices being made for her sake. Akira didn't want her to go throughthe horror of having such things done to her. With Shu and Ayato no longer interested in pursuing the Bride's blood, they had now come after her instead. Them taking her blood for sustenance wasn't the matter—vampires occasionally took blood from each other if the situation was dire enough—it was the strange things they said and did while they took her blood and the even stranger feelings their actions evoked. As if that wasn't enough, Reiji was suspicious, and he had probably went to spy on her already, which was why she kept Yui's cross on her person at all times. Akira had a feeling that her snotty older brother would be summoning her to his office in the near future. Akira set her bag down. It felt heavier than usual. She bought the sugariest drink from the vending machine. She wouldn't usually go for such high sugar content beverages, bur she needed to keep her blood sugar up. She was contentedly sipping on it as she shuffled back to the classroom when she ran into Kanato in the hallway. She meant to brush past him like she always would with any of her brothers, but an iron grip encircled her wrist. Seriously. What was all the wrist-grabbing these days? Akira pulled she straw from her mouth and glared at Kanato. "What?" Kanato inclined his head like a mechanical doll as he stared at her, the shadows under his eyes prominent. "Hey...why didn't you guys invite Teddy and I yesterday?"
"Ha? What do you mean???" What was Kanato playing at? Kanato still never tore his haunting gaze from her. His mouth thinned as his hold tightened a fraction. "Don't be silly, Sis. Yesterday, the contest after dinner. You think Teddy and I wouldn't know? I know Subaru doesn't care, but I would've joined too, to suck your blood..."
Akira tried to shake him off, but his hold just got tighter. "How is it my problem? Weren't you jerking off on you stupid bear or something? You have the Bride already! Its not like I became some prize willingly!" She snapped, then faltered slightly. She did have something to protect.
"But I don't have you!" Kanato cried, lashing out. Alira flinched back. Despite being the smallest of all her brothers, he still had unrivalled strength compared to her.
Weak, Akira thought bitterly.
"Then what am I supposed to do about that?" The bell rang just then, signaling the end of break. Kanato, still holding her wrist, whispered with a smile. "You'll let us all sample the sweet blood Ayato is raging on about. See you in class, Sis." He let go of her hand and snatched the drink. "Till then, I'll take this. Don't forget your bag." Kanato smiled and stuck the straw in his mouth, and disappeared. Her...bag?
Akira looked for her bag. It was gone.
That bastard!
