A/N: Okay I saw this post on instagram a while ago about what if Jess and Lane became friends and roomates and I was obsessed with the idea right off the bat! So this story will be their reluctant developing friendship and other relationships that I wanted to grow in the group. So this chapter is a sort of rewrite of They Shoot Gilmores, Dont They? with the 24 hour dance marathon and if Dean never broke up with Rory that night and a couple other different things that you'll just have to read(: This story is Jess/Rory and Lane/Dave and Luke/Lorelei like it should be!!!!!! (these chapters are supposed to be in chronological order just so you know)

Disclaimer: I do not own Gilmore Girls or any of it's characters because if I did this is how things would have ended up...

Slightly beaten up converse jumped up the wooden steps of the somewhat bustling dance studio. Jess had his hands in his jacket pockets where they belonged as he walked into the room of mostly sleeping marathon contestants. His eyes landed on the raven haired best friend of the girl he pretended not to love. He hadn't given her much thought until now as he watched her mom whisper something in her ear with a pointed finger of chastisement. All he knew was she was in a band, by far one of the cooler things happening in Stars Hollow. And normally he didn't give many people the privilege of being in his thoughts, but he found himself having sympathy for the loyal best friend that sent hatred his way. Being a musician and friends with Rory meant she was creative and passionate, so having a dictator of a mom must've been rough. He'd had it rough too of course, but he could always be who he wanted.

"Back for seconds? Rory just left here if you want to creepily stalk her and Dean some more.", quipped Lane as she used a shakily stressed hand to fix her glasses.

"Uh yeah I just can't get that egg like taste out of my mouth.", he said with an unintentional wince of disgust.

"Well what you see is what you get. If you're looking for chocolate chip cookies and orange slices, I can't help you.", she replied somewhat surprised at his lack of retort.

"Can I at least have a plain slice of bread or something?", he asked genuinly.

She shrugged and handed him his request.

"Thanks, with luck my taste will return to normal within three to five days.

She half chuckled with caution at giving him the satisfaction.

"Oh and uh.", he said pointing to his wrist looking at hers.

She looked down seeing the doodle she'd drawn of Nirvana's smily logo. She quickly pulled down her sleeve as Miss Kim approached and Jess walked away with a quick ode to rock and roll putting down his middle and ring finger.

She didn't know whether he was trying to mock her or relate. She watched him walk away with curiosity replacing vengeance.

Jess went home that night without causing a bit of trouble, well except leaving a ditched Shane in the bleachers. Lorelei took Rory and her fixed heel home accepting defeat. After all it was all Kirk had. Rory was always right. Dean kissed her cheek goodnight without one drop of love on his lips.
