DJ quickly left the party and followed Tara and Sam with the rest of the group behind him. A million thoughts were racing through DJ's head at once and none of them were good.

They were all following a pissed-off Tara and DJ made sure not to get too close.

"Tara. Will you stop" Sam said.

"I cannot believe you did that! You embarrassed me" she said angrily.

"That guy was a dick he was going to take advantage of you" Sam replied.

"So!"

DJ frowned at that and stepped up. "So?" DJ said.

Tara glanced at DJ before looking back at Sam. "If I want to hook up with an asshole, that's my decision. Not yours..." She turned to DJ with a stern look. "And it definitely wasn't yours".

DJ nodded slowly as he stared at her in disbelief. He felt those words in his chest and he knew she was right. But he wasn't going to apologize for fighting for her even if she didn't want it.

"Sam it's not about you I mean you were out of my life for five years and then you can't leave me alone for five minutes".

"Because you're not dealing with what happened to us. Have you even gone to see the counselor once" Sam asked?

DJ could tell the rest of the group was starting to grow uncomfortable with the argument around. But DJ knew better that this was a long time coming.

"No, and I'm not going to" Tara said stubbornly.

"Why not," Sam asked.

"Because I'm uninterested and living in the past like you are" Tara answered.

"What's that supposed to mean" Sam questioned.

"Guys c'mon" Chad started. Tara held a hand up stopping his sentence.

"It means I'm not going to let what happened to us for 3 days. Define the rest of my life" she said.

"So you're just going to pretend it never happened," Sam said. Tara was beyond irritated now, so much she couldn't yell anymore.

"What are you doing here Sam? In New York. You're working too shitty jobs to help with rent whatever, but what's your plan" she asked. Sam went quiet and knew Tara had her beat.

"I know what I'm going to do I'm going to keep going to college, I'm going to get my degree, and I'm going to live my life. My life" she emphasized.

"I'm just trying to look out for you," Sam said softly.

"I..." She inhaled deeply before continuing. "...I know you are. You can't do it for the rest of my life though. You have to let me go" Tara said.

"Hey!" a voice said interrupting the conversation.

DJ heard footsteps running up quickly from the left and his instincts took over. DJ sprinted towards the carpenter sisters and grabbed both of them and shielded them with his body. It wasn't long before DJ could feel a liquid running down his head, neck, and back.

When Tara saw the beer dripping from DJ's head and the group of girls trying not to laugh and red hot anger replaced her shock.

"Don't fucking touch him you bitch!" She yelled.

Mindy tried to run at a girl but Chad scooped her up in his arms. "What the fuck is your problem" Sam shouted.

Tara shoved one of the girls to the ground and before she could go any further a pair of strong arms gently wrapped around her waist and arm.
