Something changed.

It didn’t know what, but something was different, different from what? It didn’t know that either. All it knew was that it felt awakened, snapped out of a dream, one where you forget what was in it or how long it lasted. A flip had been switched. It felt all senses consume it’s very being, sight being the first as processed the foggy landscape sprawled out in front of it, grey, bleak, dark, dead trees scattered around, most constricted by slimy vines.

A crackle and booming sound pulled its attention to the sky, which held an ominous red glow in dark clouds that covered every inch of airspace, crackling sounds belonging to red lightning that flashed through the clouds every few seconds.
The weather was inclement, frigid air clinging to it’s skin and causing it to shiver, but something hot and plaguing coiled up inside it, animosity, it LOATHED this place, beginning it’s first train of thought, about how much this place was absolutely horrible.

It’s discomfort was further amplified by a low whirling and screeching sound echoing out from behind and above it, it spun around, immediately spotting the source of the noise, a towering black slender figure, big enough to have its pointed head touching the clouds, with multiple legs stretched out over the land, illuminated by the large streaks of red lightning around it.
Faded memories flashed at the back of its head, all of them warning it of this malevolent entity, which currently had its back turned. Fear took over, and it ran, it didn't know where to go, but any place that was far away from the horrifying creature was good enough.

After sprinting off in one direction until its legs felt like they were about to drop off, it felt safe enough to stop running, as the entity must’ve been several miles away by now. It had found itself among block-like structures, all with different sizes, shapes and heights, some had triangular tops, others had flat ones. These strange structures were placed either side of a flat and wide path with a bright stripe drawn down the middle of it. What was this place? Why was it so different to the environment it was in before?

It approached one of the structures for closer inspection, and found that it had been put together with several materials in a way that was too controlled and too neat to have happened naturally, maybe they were nests.

However curious this place was, it still held the same aura as the place before, cold, bleak, grey and lifeless, and curiosity turned to hatred, and it stalked back into the woods.

It sank down to the ground, leaned against a tree, head drooped down and claws seizing handfuls of wet leaves and ashy dirt. Its shivering had gotten worse. Loathing coiling up inside it again, burning hot and clawing at the deepest reaches of its mind. Why was it here, why did this place have to be so horrible? It didn’t want to live like this, it would rather go back to the nothingness that once claimed it…surely there must be something out there, something to make this awareness of self worth it. But it wasn’t here, nothing was here, everything here is filled with nothing and it HATED THIS.
Its claws dug deeper into the dirt. It’s face hot with anger.
It wanted nothing more to escape this plane, travel to a different realm, one that was warm and bright an-

Something was under its claws, its red glow penetrating through the thin layer of dirt, it could feel the pulse of the source. It quickly brushed aside the dirt, finding a bright red oval shape tearing through the ground, around the size of its hand…it had... created this, but, what was it? It poked the centre of it, tearing open a hole, and a soft breeze came through it, one that smelt of something alive, through the tear it could also see…a colour, something other than grey!
This small taste of something new delighted it, and drove it to, against any better judgements it could’ve had, opened up this portal between two realms enough for its grand escape from this miserable place. Its desperation heightened as it clawed at the edges with no success for several minutes, before finding the right angle to expand the portal, and clinging onto the angle as it shaped its exit.
Once that was completed it went to make its exit before hesitated, what if this new place was worse? That could be a very real possibility. Well…It would be better to at least try it, instead of just staying put. With its mind made up, it plunged through the thin veil and into another realm.

It experienced severe whiplash as soon it went through as gravity seemed to flip and it was suddenly looking up at the sky, which was painted with this light cool colour instead of raging storms.
It awkwardly pulled its entire body through the portal, laying on its stomach beside it. Warmth started seeping into it, it felt it all the way to its bones.
As it laid there in content, it decided to observe its surroundings, and found that the layout was fundamentally the same as the first realm it was in, except this one was alive with vibrancy and motion it had never seen before. It felt a brief alarm as it reminded itself of the entity and frantically checked the sky for the towering figure; fortunately, it was absent, although there was an orb of light that hurted to look at.

It brought its attention downwards and found that there were short spiked ribbons covering the forest floor, poised upright, there were spots where the ribbons clustered together and were larger, taller and curled downward. A chirping sound was heard above it, spotting the origin, it saw a small round creature perched on a tree branch, covered in a soft material except for its skinny ebony legs and short beak which held tiny little twigs. The adorable critter hopped along the branch towards the trunk, stuffing the twigs into a hole of said trunk.

It's curiosity peaked, it lifted itself off the ground and silently approached the tree, reaching up, almost grabbing the unaware critter still arranging the twigs around before stopping itself and pulling it's claws away, realising that it was significantly larger than the creature and would only frighten, or worse, hurt the delicate critter, as it remembered when it first laid eyes on something larger than it and was immediately terrified and probably would've died from terror if it was grabbed by it.
It remembered the portal, and how it was still open and knelt down to check on it, relieved to find that it was already close to closing completely, now nothing could follow it, and it certainly didn't want to go back, as it had only been in this new place a few minutes and had already discovered numerous new things. It recalled the block like structures it saw previously and pondered if those were here too, as the forest was here. It got up and wandered in the direction the structures were. Low and behold, there it was in the distance, closest to Fred being a flat surface held up by two poles with interesting symbols displayed on it.
