"Ellie!" Shane called from behind. Ellie was stomping back up to camp.

"Go away, Shane," She called back, "I don't want to talk to you."

He caught up with her quickly, he grabbed her shoulder and made her face him.

"Look, I'm sorry ok," he told her, "I shouldn't have lost it and beat up Ed like that either. Most of all I shouldn't pushed you."

"It's not just that!" She snapped at him, "you told me that my dad was dead! That broke me. Not just me though, Carl, my mom. We all thought he was dead. And you lied to us."

"I thought he was dead too, he's my best friend."

"Shane," she rubbed her eyes, "just stay away from us, especially my mother!"

She continued to walk back up to camp.

"I know you saw your mom and I fighting." Shane called to her.

She spun on her heels.

"So what? Not the relationship you were planning for?" She growled.

"She said the exact same thing as you just did, you two are more alike than you think."

"We are nothing alike!" she yelled. Faces turned from up above and down below in the quarry. Ellie turned on her heel and stomped away.

Amy and Andrea had been out on Dale's tiny, old boat all day and Ellie had no one to talk to so she sat in the tent and read. It was peaceful. Until Ellie's mother came in.

"Ellie, come out of there."

"Why?" Ellie asked in a simple tone.

"I need to talk to you,"

Ellie sighed in frustration before trudging out of the tent.

"What?" She snapped at her mother.

"Don't you talk to me like that. Now, what were you and Shane talking about? What did he tell you?"

Ellie did not make eye contact with her mother. Hiding her face.

"Nothing new." She murmured.

"Ellie, look at me," she pushed Ellie's chin up softly, "what happened to your face?"

Her mother's cool thumb lightly stroked the right side of her face.

"It's just a graze." Ellie assured her, jerking her head away from her mother's touch. "You shouldn't worry about it."

"As you mother I do, and I always will whether you like it or not. Did Shane do this to you?"

Ellie nodded slowly. "I saw you two, in the woods. I have a feeling kissing wasn't the end of it, from the way you've been looking at dad since he got back. You feel guilty, don't you?"

Her mother gaped at her, "Ellie, you weren't supposed to see that-"

"Oh yes, I am quite aware of that!"

"It's not like that hon-

"You know," Ellie cut in, "I wonder. What was going through your head? Dad had only been gone a couple of months. I know Shane had been around to help, and I knew you liked him. Just not... that much."

"Please understand, I love your dad, I always have-"

"Well, mom," Ellie cut in again, "for someone who loves him, you sure got over him quick."

She's was about to say something else when Morales walked passed.

"Hey guys," he called out, "something's up with Jim."
