Life as a cat can be hard. Not everyone is kind to strays, even other cats. Even when human other people act cruelly.
I know the perils of being both human and cat, because really, I am both.
As far as I can tell, I was born this way. I can usually shift between forms at will, but I'm more prone to when excited.
I never knew how life was being cared for until that Autumn day.I hiss at the giant-of-a-dog standing in my path, and it snarls back angrily. I tremble but stand my ground.
There has to be a way out of this...
But there was no other route I could take.
I had been happily napping in this abandoned alleyway when this mutt had come along. Behind me is a cement wall. In front of me a canine about to go for the kill.
It barks.
I shake even more.
Check.
It creeps forward, and I take a step backwards, trapped.
Then it's on me, biting with its large jaws.
Checkmate.I wake up. Disoriented and in pain, but awake.
Where...?
"Oh! It's awake!"
My attention turns to a male human with dark hair. He opens the cage and picks me up gently. I yowl in protest.
"I'm not gonna hurt you! Sheesh!"
I huff but calm down.
He examines me carefully.
"Dang, that dog got you good..."
Don't I know it. Idiot.
I look over myself.
My left back foot had been broken and I was covered in bites. Not as bad as I thought it would be, but still.
"As much as I like you, you can't stay here. I already have a cat, and she's very territorial."
I meow in agreement. I was grateful to this person, yet I didn't want to burden him any longer.
"But...," he trails off. "I may know someone who can take care of you."
He puts me back in the cage and locks it.
He then takes out his phone and dials.
"Hey Aki.what do you mean, 'Oh, it's you.'?! Look, I have a favor to ask."
A pause.
"Well, it's this cat. Don't hang up! It's injured and you know I can't keep it here!"
A sigh.
"I know, but it'll only be for a little while."
Another pause.
"Really? You're the best Aki! I'll drive him over now!"
He hangs up and turns toward me.
I meow at him.
I'm hungry. Feed me.
He ignores me and picks up the cage, walking outside of his house.
I take in my surroundings. The trees have all finally lost their leaves. They look barren to me, somehow. I tried not to think about how at the same time last year, I was...
No. Not now. I won't think about it.
He puts me in the passenger seat of his car and gets in. Suddenly he doesn't seem so confident. He looks like he's a high school girl, the way he's so fidgety.
Who is this 'Aki', anyway?
I remind myself that I'll meet him soon enough.
After a fifteen minute drive--I paid close attention--we arrive to at a destination.
It's a very bland looking house. A flat roof, bricks...nothing too extraordinary. Yet still, he--the idiot who saved me--is still fidgeting like he's about to meet the Queen of England. Or perhaps Tom Hiddleson.
He gets out of the car--after fixing his hair about twenty times--and takes me out. He carries the cage to the front door and hesitates before knocking.
After a few seconds it opens.
And the most handsome man I have ever seen appears.
Woah. So that's why...
I may be a cat, but I'm also human. I just prefer to be in a cat's form, and have a human mind.
Aki stands there for a moment, then looks at me.
"So this is the dumbass I have to take care of now."
Pleased to meet you too, asshole.Author's Note:
So this is what happens when I have too much free time.
As for the fact of why Shin (the cat, even though I haven't properly introduced him yet) stayed a cat this whole chapter, don't worry; next chapter will be full of Shin as a human. :3
