Chapter 1

Avery's POV

It was just a normal day for me. I was woken up by my screaming step father to get out of bed and and then beaten for not doing it quick enough. I am now on my long walk to school slightly limping because of my bruised rib cage from this morning. As I look around the deserted streets at six in the morning I can imagine a different life, one where my step father loved me and and did not blame me for my moms death. I honestly don't wish my mom was still alive. We never got a long and I did not really like her. I know it sounds crazy to not like your own mother but the infrequent beatings from her really did not help. I can finally see the school after a long half an hour of dragging my beaten and starved, not to mention sleep deprived, body. As I walk into the main hall way I can hear the whispers and jokes about me as I pass. Lexi the main mean girl who feeds off of other people's pain stuck her foot out for me to trip over but only an idiot falls for that so I simply step over it which was a very bad idea sense it seemed to anger her to a point that scared me. She slammed her fist into my stomach which directly hit the very bruised or broken ribs. I cried out in pain and she called her two thugs, David and joe, to beat me further. Suddenly the loud alarm like bell rang which signaled the beginning of class which I welcomed gratefully. Now all I have to do is get through a class while avoiding having to speak and keep from getting in trouble which was not that hard in normal circumstances but I got moved to the "difficult " class which meant teachers were way harder and scarier and forced you to speak. I'm about to enter the classroom of doom when I hear the one person that scares me just as much as my step dad and he says " class get out your home work we will go over it when we start, ah... Avery I see you decided to join us" all I do is shiver and whimper a sorry in fear of what he would do to me and quickly sit down.
