Everything happens so fast—the collective reactions of gasps, exclamations of anger, and, strangely, some cheers. Then, of course, I now recognize the worried cry from across the street as Sana. Someone is calling for the medics.
Yet, I'm frozen. I can't move, and it's difficult to breathe. The sight is gruesome. Mangled bodies below smoking motorcycles. And what makes it worse is the disregard by other racers. The only attention given by them is flying past a few meters away. But the scariest thing is I can't tell if Minghao is breathing.
Jun has managed a few struggling movements, but Minghao has done no such thing, and it's impossible to tell if he's still breathing.
Thankfully, Mingyu breaks me out of my panic. With our hands still in each other, he pulls me behind him as he runs. It's taking everything in me to keep up with him. Mingyu is fast, and his long legs give him an extra advantage.
For a split second, I get a glimpse at his face, and it's like nothing I've ever seen. Mingyu is terrified. His face is unnaturally pale, his mouth is parted open, and his eyes are wide with fear.
Due to Mingyu's presence, it's not hard for a path to clear for us; however, Mingyu is not hesitant to push someone out of the way to get to where he needs to be.
"Mingyu! Mingyu!" A voice calls from behind us, too loud to miss, but it doesn't stop Mingyu from continuing. I try to look back to see who it is, but I can't pick them out through the crowd of faces.
When we reach the scene, I'm gasping for breath. Mingyu drops my hand, leaves me on the sidewalk, and runs out to Minghao, who still hasn't moved.
Thank goodness no racers are going through the passage right now. By now, they're all past this part and further into the lap, but it won't be long before they're back for lap two.
Mingyu drops to the ground by Minghao and checks to see if he's breathing. After a second, Mingyu relaxes slightly, and I release a relieved sigh. Minghao's alive.
After confirmation that his friend is not dead, Mingyu works to get Minghao's body out from under the bike. An easier said than done job when in a time restraint and with entangled limbs.
While he does so, the person calling Mingyu's name earlier catches up.
Jeonghan stops just short of entering the road. "Oh, you were the one who he was dragging with him." He says, noticing me. Taking a worried glance at the street, Jeonghan likely tries to calculate how much time they have. "Come help us." He demands before running over to help Mingyu.
It takes me a moment to realize what he said, but when I do, I quickly follow.
Mingyu has almost completely gotten Minghao out, only needing to retrieve the leg trapped under all of the bike's weight. As Jeonghan lifts the motorcycle, Mingyu notices my appearance. He looks surprised but doesn't say anything.
Even though his helmet is still on, I'm sure Minghao's face is bruised, as well as the rest of his body. He's passed out right now, and blood is still seeping out from his right leg, left arm, and somewhere in his abdomen.
"Go help Sana with Jun," Jeonghan says. "We'll finish this."
Sure enough, Sana is already by Jun's side, making him sling his arm around her shoulder so she can help him stand. I must have been too focused on Minghao to notice when Sana arrived.
Following instructions, I somewhat hesitantly leave to help the couple.
Tears are streaming down Sana's cheek as Jun struggles to move. He lets out a low groan as he attempts to stand up.
