A man woke up on a deserted island. He didn't remember who he was, or where he was, or even what he was! He looked around, and then he felt a strange sensation in his left forearm. Looking down, he saw a diamond-shaped gem implanted in his flesh, glowing with an eerie blue-green light. He scratched at it.
Soon to give up on finding anything out about this gem, he decided he wanted to get to know the area around him, so he walked throughout his peninsula for a little while. Soon, he felt sufficiently knowledgeable about his peninsula, so he walked over to a tree and broke some sticks off it. Then he collected some fibers (and some berries) from the abundance of ferns about him, and picked up a piece of flint. After sharpening the flint, he attached it, using the plant fibers, which he had woven into string, to the stick and made himself a little hatchet. Feeling much safer now against the unknown beasts of the night, he chopped down some small trees near the beach and built himself a tiny but comfortable hut.
Later, he found a scrap of metal which had fallen off a rock, and striking it against his hatchet, lit himself a campfire, and next to it he heated the berries before eating them, which greatly increased the deliciousness of his meal. Feeling full and content, he curled up in his little hut next to the fire, under a blanket of leaves, and slept through the night.
The next day the man found some more berries and, after relighting his fire (as it had gone out), cooked them and had himself his breakfast. He soon realized, however, that berries were not filling enough to sustain him while he was chopping down trees to extend his hut.
He needed something more filling. He needed meat.
The man heard a clucking sound in the distance - a dodo. He crept up on the bird, and ate a hearty meal that day.
Continuing to make his house larger, he realized that his simple dwelling of bark and sticks would not be strong enough to protect against the larger creatures, of which he had caught glimpses, out in the lush forest. He made a pickaxe out of sticks and stones, and hacked away at some larger boulders to get smaller rocks, which he laid in layers around his home until he had a wall. This endeavor took many tiring days, during which to sustain himself he cooked and ate more of those delicious birds that kept wandering into his midst. They vaguely reminded him of something, but he could not figure out what. After his wall was done, and he had some comfortable clothes to keep himself warm, as well as a fairly large hut, he decided that he should probably explore a bit more. He remembered that, when collecting stones, he had found many small chunks of metal. He softened the metal in a furnace he had built around his fire, and formed it into a blade for a stronger hatchet. Then he set off.
He soon came upon a large pond, in which he saw a great number of fish swimming about. He hadn't tried fish yet, so he caught one and ate it. It was rather tasty, he thought. He didn't see much of interest for a while, but then he saw something very surprising! Off in the foliage, he saw a creature - except it wasn't. It looked just like himself, although it was considerably thinner.
The man called out (he didn't remember much "speak").
The other man ran up to him and made various gestures which our main person interpreted as "what is your name?"
He didn't remember his name, so he responded with a grunt which sounded like the word "Humain," and that was his name. The other man said "Huma," and so they were Huma and Humain.
Over time, Huma and Humain built themselves a little village on the peninsula and developed a simple language to communicate. Their language included gestures and simple spoken words. They also caught and trained a few "giant lizards" to help them hunt.
One day, they were hunting when they saw something very large in the distance.
"What is that?" asked Huma in a low growl, as not to be heard.
