Peter watched his hand, as the silver coin twisted and hopped over each of his fingers. The coin did not fall, for Peter had practiced this ever since he was 13. He looked up to notice the entire classroom gazing at the coin, including the English teacher Mrs. Kimbol, only rather than an intrigued look, this one was scornful.
"Excuse me, mister Davidson, it seems that coin is quite a distraction, don't you think," asked Mrs. Kimbol.
"Sorry mam," replied Peter. He quickly placed the coin into his pocket.
"No more apologies, this is the fifth time this week I have had to remind you," she said. "If it happens again, it will be a detention."
"Understood,"Peter said.
"Good, now, open your books to page 71 where your homework..." The bell rang cutting off the rest of her sentence.
By the time she dismissed the class they were already out the door, Peter in the back. He thought she had said something, but he couldn't make out one word.
Peter took the coin back out of his pocket and started to flick it up in the air. The glare of the coin was almost as bright as Peter's mind.
He was a straight-A student like his brother, but he had an incomprehensible thought process. Peter was around 6 ft tall, like his brother , but Peter had brown hair, blue eyes, and a squarish face.
Eric on the other hand, now heading toward Peter's locker (Eric was always done to get his things first), has blonde hair, brown eyes, and a slim face.
"What's up," asked Peter.
"Oh, nothing. Just getting caught rolling this stupid coin," said Eric.
"Don't call it stupid! It's the only thing we have left of them!" Peter and Eric referred to there parents as "them" for neither of them would like to bring up memories of the fire.
Both of them awoke to the blistering heat of the flames. They
were merely 13, the middle of the seventh grade school year. The flames burned the chard doorway, rapidly approaching the two helpless boys. They turned around, only to see a window that looked out the second story of the house.
"WINDOW!!!" Eric screamed
"No way! That's like a twenty foot drop," yelled Peter.
"It's our only chance!"
"What about mom and..."
CRACK! The ceiling above began to fall.
"GO!" Yelled Eric.
