I put my ear up to the door, trying to make out if it was my imagination, or if my brother actually was able to get a girlfriend. I started to smile ear to ear until I heard it through the giggles;
"Bonnie, we have to make sure Tara doesn't find out, she would kill us both." My twin brother Devon whines.
"Dev, I promise she won't find out, but she needs to know at some point, so why don't we tell her tomorrow?" I hear her say.
I'm frozen in my tracks, mouth wide open at the realization that the girlfriend my brother has in his room, is in fact, my best friend, Bonnie.
After what felt like minutes, I finally get the courage to move my feet and shuffle to my room. I find the mirror that's attached to my vanity, and I sit there with the lights on, staring at myself.
"How does he get someone, let alone my best friend, while I have to sit here alone?" I whisper to myself with my head hanging down. "It just isn't fair."
At this point, I feel anger, betrayal, jealousy, and sadness well up inside my heart. I want to be loved, cared for, and have someone make me feel like I'm the only girl in the entire world, but that seems unlikely for me.
I look in the mirror and stare myself in the eyes. Don't get me wrong, I'm not unattractive in the least, I have long brown hair, killer brownish orange eyes, skin as smooth as glass, and a smile that makes men's knees weak. My body is a perfect pear shape, so that isn't an a problem either, especially since my stomach is flat. My issue? I'm terrified to let another man into my heart since my dad.
My dad was my entire heart, he made me feel beautiful, even on my worst days. The saying "A girls daddy is her first true love" was a quote I lived by my entire childhood. He was there for me through everything, so once he was gone, my world fell apart, and I promised I wouldn't let another man in so I didn't feel this pain again.
I drop my head down again, sigh, and finally stand up. "No use in sulking anymore." I say as I push my chair away from the vanity and go to my dresser. I pull out a purple night shirt, slip off my tank top and shorts, shove my head through the hole in the night shirt and walk over to my bed.
"Tomorrow is the first day of senior year, and I can't wait to be done." I sigh as my eyes close and I doze off into a heavy sleep.

"Tara-" I hear as a loud bang comes from my door.
"Tara, get your ugly ass out of bed, it's senior year!" I hear my brother yell from the hallway. "You gotta get up and wash all that ugly off you before I can be seen pulling up to the school with you." He says through a loud roar of laughter.
I barely open my eyes and look at the time. "5 o'clock in the morning." I groan.
I rub my eyes, stretch my legs, and throw them over the side of the bed. After making sure I'm awake enough to walk, I throw my closet doors open and inspect my clothes. We just went shopping for new clothes last week, so I just have to find a perfect outfit from the new clothes and I will be fine.
After scrounging through what seemed like millions of clothes, I finally landed on pair of very flattering and form fitting pair of ripped jeans, and a cute skin tight tank top and flannel.
"Hurry the hell up, you wake me up this early, I get dibs on the shower first, you asshole!" I yell.
A half naked Devon walks out the bathroom, steaming and wet. "The shower is all yours." He says with a smirk.
Irritated, I walk into the bathroom and turn the fan on so the steam will settle. As I walk over to the closet to grab a towel, I step in a massive puddle of water from my idiot brothers shower, and end up slipping.
I let out a raging scream "DEVON, HOW MANY TIMES DO I HAVE TO TELL YOU TO WIPE UP YOUR WATER AFTER YOUR SHOWERS?!" I put my hand on the counter and lift myself up so I can finally get my day started.
From down the hallway, I hear heavy metal music playing in the speakers coming from Devon's room. "Of course he didn't hear me, he's fucking dead from his music."
Playing music this loud at such an early time of the day is never an issue, as my mom is usually up making breakfast, or is in her shed (what she wants to call her "office") in the backyard by 4 o'clock in the morning.
I step out of the shower, take a deep breath and try to compose myself. "Today is your first last day. You can do this." I whisper to myself, trying to boost my self esteem.
After I finish getting my makeup on and get dressed, I decide to curl my hair when my phone starts ringing.
"Tara! Girl, please tell me you heard?" I hear Bonnie's soft but loud voice on the other end.
"No, what's going on? Did something happen?" I ask her with concern in my voice.
"So you haven't heard about Ivan yet?" She exclaims.
A picture of Ivan, a short, grey eyed, black haired nerd popped into my head. "I haven't. What's wrong with him? Nobody has seen or heard from him since Sophomore year." I say, confused.
"He's back." Bonnie said in a still and steady tone that sent chills down my back.
"Let's hope he doesn't have a grudge on any of the kids who hurt him in school. Anyway, I have to go, I'm doing my hair and still have to grab some breakfast, but I'll see you at the lockers before first period." I explain to her. "I love you. Kisses. Bye!"
"Bye bitch! See you in an hour! Love ya!" Bonnie replies.
I groan and then my curler on to work on my hair.
He's back. Ivan is back.
Some backstory on Ivan, he was a short kid, about 5'5 our sophomore year. Almost all of middle school and half of high school he was bullied. His black hair was always greasy, he had really bad acne, his braces have been on since we were in 4th grade, and he overall was a quiet kid. Sophomore year he ended up being transferred out due to the bullying, but since he was considered a nobody, no one knew where he went, until now.
