Chapter ten; what...?

"Uh, sorry I'm late sir." I swiftly apologized in a whisper before sinking into my seat.

Last night, I had over slept. My hair was in a mess, and my shirt was probably on inside out due to the rush.

Mr.Gilbert's disappointed expression peered at me over the rim of his glasses. It made me feel uncomfortable, and I wish he would stop it. I played with a strand of my hair just to distract myself, but that didn't help the situation. The teacher proceeded to analyze me.

"Avery, why were you la-"

Mr.Gilbert's question was shortly cut off by the intrusion of a figure dressed in a burgundy hoodie, and sunglasses covering his eyes. It was Jackson.

My whole body released a sigh of relief as the focus had now been taken away from me, and onto someone else.

"I had to walk here because my car crashed." Said Jackson, as if it was something Mr.Gilbert had to accept. His tone wasn't even hinted with guilt.

I stared at the teacher, and then the student, teacher, student. The tension was definitely growing larger by the second. I couldn't see the expression on his face, as the sunglasses concealed his eyes, but his body gave off this just-give-me-detention-I-couldn't-care-less aura. I sensed a bad body persona in Jackson since day one, but now it was really beginning to show; more than it has ever.

"When will you be taking responsibility, Jackson? I don't want to hear your excuses. I will be giving you detention, along with Avery."

My eyes popped, and every fibre of my being tensed. I couldn't move, but the stares coming from people behind me burned holes into the back of my head, whilst Jackson's aim was on my face. When I said "can my life get any worse?" it was a rhetorical question, God, not a freaking challenge.

I slouched into my seat, not being bothered about the fact that my jumper also slouched over my shoulders. But it was when somebody called out "shouldn't you be in some bell tower?" directly at me -followed by loud sniggers- when I immediately straightened my back out. I'm not one to need to impress people, but if it terminates their ridicule, whatever goes, right?
