It was late by the time I got home from the party. The guys were super awesome and I manged to keep them all occupied without using alcohol. I hate it when the guys drink. They become monsters instead of the fun loving guys they truly are.

Removing the knife from the case on my thigh I drop it onto the tool bench. I make my way to the only bedroom that wasnt demolised in the flooding that destroyed the house years ago. Im so tired I almost don't notice the package on my pillow.

I grab it fingering the white ribon wrapped tightly around it. A card is slipped under the ribbon with a gold ink showing my name clearly. I slide my finger under the fold breaking the envlope seal. I pull a blue card with a wolf howling at the moon. Opening the card I find more gold writing. I begin to read.

Dear Core

Happy Birthday little Sister sorry I couldn't be there when you open this but after tonight you'll become the women I always knew you would be. But things are going to be a little different. Please remember I love you with all my heart. Mom and Dad would be proud of you.

Love your big brother Shift

What does he mean things will be different after tonight? Setting the card to the side I tear the newspaper off of the carefully wrapped gift. Inside was the most amazing thing I have seen in my life. A medal knife with two wolves carved onto the blade. My heart skips a beat at the glistening of the carfully crafted artwork. I lay down on the bed holding that knife close too my chest with a peice of leather wrapped around the blade. If I truly knew what was going to happen that night I would have never fallen asleep.

My eyes shoot open hearing the garage door open. But this doesn't sound like Shift. He normally just comes right to my bedroom to check on me. This persons foot steps are light almost like there sneaking around the house.

All my senses perk feeling an unfriendly presence in the dark. I slide out of bed the wolf blade in my hand. Removing the leather cover I hold it in position to attack. The steps come close to my bedroom. As the door handle moves I brace myself.

"Core are you in here?"

I release the pent up stamina and glare at Dark face peeking around the door.

"Your all right good we have to go!"
He grabs me by the arm and drags me out of my room.

"Your brother hasn't contacted me at all since his little thing this evening. Did he say anything weird to you before  he left?"

I'm too shaken to say anything so dark being dark starts to shake me back and forth.
"Tell me core!! Did he say anything to you?!"
His eyes are full of worry making me worry as well.

I shake my head.

"No but he did leave me a birthday card."

I pick up the card and hand it to Dark. He takes it from my hand scanning it through. His eyes widen. Quickly he graves my wrist running through the hall and out the main door.

"Dark what's wrong?!"

He doesn't reply. We just continue to run clinging to the shadows like frightened rats. The city is quite this time of night with everyone sleeping soundly in there beds.

We head toward an old warehouse its workers gone long ago. Dark drags me up the set of 15 stairs me huffing behind. We reach the door to the roof. Dark kicks it open leaving a dent in the meddle. What I see on that roof will never leave my mind. My older brother lying in a pool of his own blood.
