𝐀𝐅𝐓𝐄𝐑 about an hour and a half of cleaning myself from blood and sweat, I'm ready for dinner. Since I'm getting changed later to go out with Lexi, I don't feel the need to dress up nicely so I throw on leggings and a comfy hoodie and braid my hair so it's slightly curly when I go out later.
The atmosphere inside the dining room is tense and when I meet my parent's gazes they look the same.
"Your hair looks nice Malia," my mother says to me, forcing a smile, and my dad silently agrees with her with a small nod.
I walk over to both of them and give her a kiss on the side of her head and ruffle my dads hair, mumbling a quiet thank you.
As soon as I sit down, one of our maids brings over soups and garlic bread. Starters mean a 3 course meal. 3 course meals mean they're expecting a long conversation. Loud footsteps down the stairs let me know Seb has smelt the food and decided to gift us with his presence.
"Nice of you to join us, " Dad comments with a grin at his son's behaviour, but Sebastian takes no notice of the slight dig that my dad's taken at him and instead decides to focus on the food in front of him.
Deciding to tackle the elephant in the room, I pop the question.
"What's going on ?"
The deep inhale my mother takes reminds me of her dislike of confrontation. You'd think as the previous Donna of the Spanish Mafia she wouldn't mind it considering how ruthless she was - and still is - but she hates it. Both of my parents stepped down from their position 2 months ago, but have allowed me to take on responsibilities for a month prior to help me ease into my new role. They still like to add their input where they feel its necessary and I don't mind it. After all, they have more experience.
"The French are becoming a problem." Sebastian states with a mouth full of garlic bread.
"Tell me about it, one of them had been sent to personally take me out." I say offhandedly, my spoon stirring the soup to get rid of the lumps that were never there to begin with.
"You need to decide what you're going to do." my father chips in bluntly. Right to the point, as per usual.
"I know, I know. I've been thinking about planning an ambush. What do you guys think about that ?" I suggest, eager to hear my parents opinion.
"I think it could work," my mom says, but I hear the way her words trail off like she's not finished speaking. I gesture my hands for her to finish her train of thought. " - but I don't think you can do it alone."
The words sit in the air for a while as I turn them in my brain and accept that she's right. The Spanish Mafia is one of the most powerful but the way the French have been fighting of recent makes them a bigger threat than before.
"You think I should create an alliance ?" She nods at my question as she finishes the last of her soup.
"Ok. I'll think about it. " I say with a tone of finality. The conversation ends there and I'm thankful because I didn't really want to spend dinner talking about it anymore.
