Second Chance

The Proposal

Her heart was melting with joy, looking at the emerald ring that fits closely to her middle finger. She couldn't believe it Harry proposed to her.

Sylvia stroll in the garden admiring her ring. Harry and Sylvia had been in a relationship for two years after Sylvia broke up with her ex, Carlos.

Sylvia Chavez was the legitimate child of the Chavez's. she came from a high class family. Her mother died after she gave birth to Sylvia. Then Mr. Chavez married another woman who had a fierce and dark nature.
Sylvia was forgotten and neglected. She later found out that her father had already had a daughter that shares the same age with her. She felt betrayed that her father cheated on her mother but there's nothing she could do. Either she stays with him or she leaves the house.

Sadly enough, no one cared for her, taught her etiquettes and manners. She had never felt a mother's love. Her father ignored her and paid less attention to her. He gave full attention to his other child, Sonia and her mother. Sylvia would work as slave to her step mom and sister and if she disobeyed, she won't be fed for a day.
She would be given torn and fade clothes used by her step sister. Her father couldn't be bothered with her.

But still her father managed to take her to the best school, the same school with her step sister.

At school, she was the laughing stock. Any time she passes by a group of girls, they all burst into a mocking laughter making her feel bad.
They say words like "you're so ugly" "you use rags for clothes no wonder why you stink" "do you wash your under wears ?" Her step sister, Sonia taint her names behind her back, even right at her front! The whole school saw her as the laughing stock even the teachers played favouritism any time it has to do with Sylvia and Sonia. Everyone hated her!

But that was not the case with Carlos the Scar. Carlos Evans was the dangerous gangster. He was known for his ruthless and fearless skills. He was the last child of the Evan's a wealthy family from Canada. No one knew too much about his personality.
They heard that he left the Evan's home because his grandpa was domineering over him and he hated it when they controlled him.

Then Carlos was the cutest guy in school no man could match up to him.
Every girl wants to be with him. Among all the girls in school, he picked Sylvia after that night she saved him from his enemies. He got a kind of attraction to her and since then he became her close friend. The girls in school hated her more and wondered why Carlos would choose her out of the beautiful girls.

But with Carlos by her side no one dared to bully her. Sonia burned with fury and jealousy as she report everything to her mom who seems helpless. There's no way the Chavez's can meet up to the Evan's. To the Evan's, the Chavez's were like small ants who they could crush at any time. They just endured it.

As time passes by, Sylvia and Carlos friendship became tight as ever. Sylvia felt protected and and she could find a friend in him.

They left the friend zone and became lovers. They were together for twelve years till the day Sylvia found him with a lady cuddling together happily. Even when he knew she caught him red-handed, he behaved nonchalantly. Instantly they broke up.

Feeling betrayed again, she turned back to the laughing stock and this time it became more worst. Everyone said she was used and dumped. Even if he played with her feelings she still loved him deeply in her heart. Then she promised never to fall in love through out her lifetime. Sonia and her mother got happy and felt that it serves her right.

Years later, Sylvia left her high school life and looked for jobs because she couldn't depend on her father's wealth. A family friend Mr. Carter, having a higher status slightly, His son Harry liked Sylvia but Sylvia never showed great interest in him because Carlos had her heart.

Harry heard about Carlos who broke her heart and he promised never to break her heart. Sylvia decided to give him a chance but controlled her self not to fall for him too much. She didn't want to get hurt again.

Sonia anger increased daily. No man had ever approached her, only those dirty old men. She wondered why every man liked Sylvia not her "she must have a love potion"she thought. She had tried many ways to seduce him but it all turned to failures.

On a calm evening, Harry and Sylvia strolled in the garden admiring the cool breeze. In Sylvia's mind, she wish she it was Carlos she held that way but it wasn't him.

Suddenly, Harry knelt down right in front of her and her brought out a ring with a white box bringing out an emerald ring. Sylvia eyes widened in shock. She didn't expected this out of nowhere. It was kind of romantic.

"Sylvia I know I can't find a place in your heart now but I want you to give me a chance to prove to you that I love you and no one else. From the very first day I met you it was like love at first sight, please give me the chance to find a place in your heart I want to prove my love to you, Sylvia" he stopped and continued " would you marry me ?" He asked waiting for an answer.

Sylvia didn't expect this. She didn't know what to say. She could never find love even if she wants one and it was an opportunity to get proposed to. Maybe she could still love him at the end what if she don't ? It would be like a loveless marriage. She didn't want to hurt his feelings, she knew how that felt. Looking at it from another angle she can never be with Carlos again and she was going to stay with her father and continue working as servants ? No way! Maybe she should try at least give him a chance and see how things goes.

Making up her mind she nodded. He sighed in relief and slid the ring into her slender finger. He kissed her and spin her graciously like a sunflower. "Thanks you so much you don't know how relieved I am, just a second, I will be back " he said leaving her in the garden to admire her ring.
