Goodbye Dear Friend

I am released from the hospital a few days later when my legs heal. As I walk in the front door of my house I smell my favorite smell. Coconut macaroons with chocolate. I run to the kitchen excitedly.

"Macaroons!" I yell running to the counter with the tray of delicious soft macaroons. I quickly pick one up wasting no time. I shove the whole thing in my mouth. I chew it and swallow it. My mom walks in just as I swallow my second one.

"I see you've found the macaroons Charlotte made." She laughed. I nodded stuffing another one into my mouth.

After I was done eating macaroons I ran up to my room. I grabbed my phone. I turn it on. 784 texts?! I go onto messages. Of course. The dance group chat.

Maddie: Kendall r u okay???
Chloe: Yeah, have u seen Paigey?
Mackenzie: Hey Kendall, hope u feel better!
Gino: Heard about accident. Feel better Kendall!

The rest were all like that. I texted everyone back. Gave them updates on Paige, Gia, Melissa, and Nick.

11:30 PM
"Guys out of bed! Come on hurry up!" My mom is yelling for us to get up.

"Mom, it's 11:30. Why are you yelling at us to wake up?" I ask sleepily.

"It's Paige! Her heart monitor is going crazy, which means so is her heart!" I scream.

"Mom, no! I have to get to the hospital to see her, NOW!" Tears are starting to flee from my eyes.

"Kendall calm down! It will be okay. We can see her tomorrow." Ryleigh picks me up and carries me back to bed. I fall asleep quickly and start to dream...

I am in a grassy field. I look around and there is nothing or no one. I feel a rush of sadness, joy, anger, and fear come over me. I hear someone take a breath from behind me. I turn around to face Paige.

"Paige?" I ask her. She nods her head and disappears. As soon as she's gone I start falling. Blackness surrounds me. Where am I? I try to tell but no sound comes out. My heart rate speeds up.

I sit up. I'm crying. What just happened to me?

"Mom!!!" I yell. She runs into my room, phone in hand. "Mom I had this dream! I was in this-this field! There was no one there and then Paige came out of nowhere! She disappeared and I felt like I was falling for like an hour!" My mom went pale.

"Honey," My mom started. "I just got a text message. Paige died a few minutes ago." I was speechless. One of my first friends in Pittsburgh. She was really gone.
Forever.

•Flashback•
It's one week after my big move to Pennsylvania. I have zero friends. Today is my first dance class in Pittsburgh. I walk through the doors into a front room. A women named Ms. Abby is sitting at the front desk smiling at me. I'm shaking. I'm pretty sure all the girls are going to hate me.

"Hello! You must be my new student, Kendall?" I nod and flash a smile. I don't want to be too perky. She leads me to a door labeled, "Dancer's Den." I walk in automatically getting stares from other girls. Abby told me once she calls us we go to Studio B.

Soon enough Abby calls us in. I wait until all the other girls go in then I walk in. Abby explains everything and introduces me to all the girls. We go through the new group dance and finally it's time for solos, duets, and trios.

"Alright girls," Ms. Abby started. "Time for solos, duets, and trios." I zoned out on solos. Stretched my toes a little bit until duets. "Okay. For duets we have, Brooke and Payton, you have a duet called Flashy. Mia and Kennedy, duet called Secrets and last for duets, Paige and Kendall you two have a duet called Not Much. I remember Paige looking at me in the way someone looks at you and you know you're going to be best friends for an eternity. That's how she looked at me. Now realizing she's gone forever is like a bullet straight through your heart.
•Flashback Over•
It's now 7 am. I've been awake since 1 am in between crying and just not being able to make myself believe Paige is actually never coming back. I get to skip school today to go to the Hyland's house. We drive over at about 11:30. As I open the front doors I see Josh and Brooke sitting on the couch and Chloe next to them, all in tears. As soon as I see them I burst into tears too. Maddie and Mackenzie pull into the driveway and Melissa jumps out of the front seat already in tears. She hugs the miserable Kelly for about three minutes straight, then takes a seat next to her. Maddie and Kenzie slowly pace to the front door. Tears slowly run down Mackenzie's face.

Later on me and all the girls were sitting in Brooke's room playing a game when Brooke got a phone call. It was a unrecognized phone number with no caller ID.

"Hello?" Brooke mumbled.

"Hi, Brookie. I have some instructions for you. Follow them, and you will stay safe. Disobey them, and you will pay. The instructions will be emailed to you tonight. Bye hun!"

The line went dead. Brooke's wide eyes and terrified face made me want to cry for 37 years straight.

"Please don't tell my mom!" Brooke blurted.

"Why, why not? This is serious, Brooke. Whoever the hell this is is threatening to hurt you." Maddie says placing a hand on her hip.

Melissa walks in.

"Maddie, Mackenzie, time to go girls." They stand up, and Maddie shoots a glare at Brooke. Brooke shrugs back. Maddie knows she can't. That's the sister code. If one girl says, "don't tell" or "it's a secret" that means no telling no matter what.

Soon everyone is gone and it's me and Brooke alone. Brooke bursts into tears. I hug her. She wipes her eyes and we just talk about random stuff until I have to go home
