I spend the rest of the day alone in my room. I just wanted time to myself.
Around dinner time, there is a knock on my door.
Parker and Catherine walk in.
Catherine smiles. "We have pizza, breadsticks, ice cream and beer. We're coming in."
They both climb onto my bed. Parker grins. "No more sad stuff, we were supposed to come here and have fun for Chase."
I grab a slice of pizza and take a bite. I can't remember the last time I had good pizza. "I'm sorry I've been such a downer."
"Right now, we want to drink beer." Catherine says while taking a sip.
I smile. "Fine by me."
"I actually wanted to discuss something with you two." Parker seems nervous. Parker doesn't get nervous.
I raise my eyebrows questioningly. "What?"
"So I wrote last night. For the first time in so long I feel like I wrote something of substance."
"That's great, right?"
"It is. I was wondering if one of you would read it and tell me if I have a good start."
I nod. "I'd love to."
He shakes his head. "I meant Catherine. You can't read it until I see the plans for the expansion. We had a deal, Fawley."
I smirk. "I hate you."
We spend the rest of the night in my bed eating and drinking and talking. I feel genuinely happy again for the first time in a long time.
I wake up next to Parker and Catherine. My room is trashed. There are beer bottles, pizza boxes and ice cream cartons all over.
Parker stirs next to me. "What time is it?"
I glance at the clock. "5:15. I'm going for a run."
"Mind if I tag along?"
"No. Should we wake her?" Signaling to Catherine.
"Let her sleep."
I change into running clothes and walk out to the dock. The lake is quiet in the morning. The sun is rising and the air is still a little cool.
"Perfect morning for a run." Parker mumbles as he walks up to me.
"Lets take advantage of it."
Parker and I run around the entire lake. It helps with my hangover. By the time we get back home, its 7:30 and I'm exhausted.
"Shit, I forget how hard that is." I flop down in one of the hammocks.
"Me too. I'm out of shape. Chase and I used to do that with no problem."
"We should do it every morning. Maybe by the end of the summer we'll be able to do it without wanting to die."
He smiles. "Care for a dip?"
"No. Its early. The water is still cold."
He walks towards me very slowly. "Come on, it'll be fun."
I glare at him. "Parker, I swear to God.."
But he doesn't let me finish my sentence. He grabs my waist and throws me over his shoulder.
"Let's go for a swim, Kam."
I scream and thrash in his arms but it doesn't matter and a second later, he throws me and I plunge into the water.
