It was September of 2022. I was about to start my freshman year of High School. I remember being excited for the year to come. New school, new staff, new peers, new me.  As I pulled my black shirt over my head and brushed out my dyed red hair I thought and thought. School always made me excited especially now that I was starting High School. Leaving middle school behind and being a step closer to adulthood sounded amazing in my mind. But there's always is a part of me deep in my mind that's anxious and nervous for the year ahead and last September I believe that feeling was right.

The bell rung as 190 freshman entered the humid gym. The first day was a half day and set up as an introduction day for us freshman. Juniors and Seniors referred to as link leaders grouped us into small gatherings of about 10 freshman and 2 leaders after our principals and counselor were done giving us their introduction speeches.

I sat there in my group frankly embarrassed to be a freshman in that moment wishing I could simply go to class and meet my teachers. They had us playing silly ice breaker games and such for the 2 and a half hours we were at school that day. At this point I didn't know what to expect from High School but out of all the emotions I was feeling, I was mainly excited.

I had my core group of friends from middle school whom I intended to stay close with. I also had Ace. Ace and I had been friends since 1st grade but then Ace moved schools in 4th grade. We became close again our 8th grade year and found out we had 5 out of our 6 classes together for our upcoming school year. Little did I know that Ace would become my main support throughout my freshman year.

That half day filled with silly little games ended and faded into my first full day of High School which faded into the first full week of High School. At this point it was going pretty well I enjoyed all of my teachers and their work was fairly simple. I was high on life really living it up to my fullest at the beginning of the year which was a great feeling. I was comfortable with high school and enjoyed the presence of my friends ready to have a great year.

Little did I know...
