Twilight settled in, the Crystalline throne welcoming her with the familiar embrace of the navy blue cushion.
A tome, aglow in magenta, floated before her. Her horn's magic flipped it open.
Twilight, engrossed in her tome, became oblivious. Somewhere, hoofsteps sounded; somepony was nearby. Whether friend or foe, how would it go? Suddenly, Pinkie Pie appeared to her left, exclaiming, "Twilight!"
"You scared me, Pinkie!" Twilight said, wings outstretched. She drew several deep breaths and set the tome down. "Wait a minute—" She folded her wings. "How'd you get in here?"
Pinkie did a shushing motion. "It's a secrety-secret," she said. Now, you may or may not have noticed her singsong intonation. "You don't know but the audience knows."
"What audience?" Twilight said, bewildered. "What do you mean by that? You're not making any sense, Pinkie. There's nopony watching us."
"But there really is!" Pinkie pointed at the screen.
Twilight blinked at her. "You know what? I'm not even gonna try."
"Anyway, I'm having a super-duper-ultra-mega fantastic day. Are you having a super-duper-ultra-mega fantastic day?" She spun around and rebounded around the Crystalline thrones. Finally, reaching where she started, she twirled to face her. "I'm soooo excited," she said, rapidly prancing in place. "Are you excited? I can't wait to show you. Are you ready?" Her happy dance stopped. "Wait, before I show you, you must swear by the Pinkie Promise. Come on! I'll say it with you."
"Cross my heart and hope to fly, stick a cupcake in my eye," they said in unison.
Pinkie spoke first. "You know how it goes. No looksy, okay?"
Twilight, with her wings, shrouded herself. I wonder where she is going with this, she thought.
Out of nowhere, Pinkie pulled out a T-shirt launcher. "Ta-da!" she exclaimed. "You can look now."
Tucking her wings, Twilight looked at it. "It's certainly, um . . . That's wonderful, Pinkie!" Worry flickered across her face. "Please tell me it isn't filled with cupcakes."
"Well, I don't remember . . . but oh well! You know, I have found the Confetti Cannon to be a bit cumbersome and if it's cumbersome then I can't have fun!" Her right hoof touched her chin and her eyes darted up. "What should I call this . . ." she said finally. "Hmmm . . . Oh, I got it! Confetti Blaster will be the name of this pinkerrific invention!" She put her hoof down and looked at her excitedly, asking, "Wanna see it in action?!"
"Wait! You're sure there's no cupcakes in there?"
Pinkie sat down and checked the barrel. "Only confetti," she said, standing up.
That's a relief, Twilight thought. I really hope Pinkie isn't lying though. Only one way to find out. "I'm ready."
Aiming her Confetti Blaster up high, Pinkie set it off: confetti exploded out of the barrel and fluttered everywhere. With star-speckled eyes, Pinkie took in the spectacle.
As the colourful contents settled, she glanced at Twilight, who was covered mane to hoof, and burst out in laughter. Twilight looks funny—but I'm sure she doesn't mind, she thought. A visit from Pinkie a day keeps the doctor away.
"How was that?" Pinkie asked. "Was it . . . wondertastical?!"
Twilight, as if stuck in time, froze. She glanced about, her eyes landing on the rug, on the crystal platform, and on Pinkie. It wasn't until Pinkie gleamed with delight and beamed with pleasure that she realised she was doing it too. "Pinkie, I really enjoyed seeing your Confetti Blaster," she said. "Thank you so much for showing me. It was a lot of fun. On the other hoof, just please don't sneak up on me like that again, alright?"
Pinkie giggled. "I don't know if I'm going to keep my promise . . ." she said, mischief gleaming in her eyes. "But I'll try to let you know next time." She looked at the fanlight door and then at Twilight. "I'm gonna go now, bye!" she said, waving.
"Bye Pinkie!" Twilight exclaimed, waving back.
Pinkie placed her Confetti Blaster behind her back and it disappeared as if it was magic. Then she spun around and hippity-hopped around the Crystalline thrones once and then towards the fanlight door, all the while humming a tune.
Twilight, channelling her horn's magic, opened the fanlight door. Then, she shifted position and gazed at her departure.
Pinkie's visit was quite sudden, and that scare certainly scared her silly, briefly anyway. Now, what happened earlier isn't good, okay? She scared the pony out of her and we don't want that, do we? Aside from that, delightfully delightful was her company.
With the hum of magic, she drew the tome to her eye level.
It was nice. The day that is. It was clear and calm, the sun's pleasant warmth making reading the perfect environment.
Just then, she found herself smiling at the memory of the visit; Pinkie's perfectastic personality perked her up.
Her wings, as they slowly unfurled, did a little happy shake. This is . . . she thought, realising the confetti meant so much more. Pinkie Pie is . . . Her effervescent essence is truly a ray of sunshine! Because of that, I've realised that I forgot to make time for fun and laughter. Silly me! She has shown me that the little things in life can be the biggest joys. Not only that, I also need to make the most out of life's moments.
