As I walked from the train station, I couldn't help but feel a little bit of uncertainty. I mean, how could you not? Being thrown onto a train with little baggage and a destination : Coldfront.
...
As I trudged through the snow, I could only imagine what was held behind those doors. What is everyone like? Will I die as soon as I get on the battlefield? All these questions raced through my mind as I entered the building.
Once inside, I notice two people standing in the lobby. They saw me and walked over. "Howdy!" A short man with goggles greeted me with a thick southern accent. "Oi." A taller man with a Australian spoke. "So, partner, you must be the new Scout?" The Southerner asked. "Y-yeah, that's, um, me." I said. "The names Dell." He said as he stuck out his hand. "Kyle." I said, accepting his hanshake. "That there's Marty, our Sniper, I'm the Engineer." I looked to Sniper as he spoke. "Engie and I are 'ere to give you a tour of this bloody place." He looked at my expression and laughed. "I'm just kiddn' mate!" I breathed a sigh of relief. "Come now, let's go!" Dell said as he opened a door to my long career of working at B.L.U
...
"... and this is your room." The Texan said as we stopped by a blue wooden door. "T-thanks Dell, er, e-engie." I stuttered out as I walked inside the small room. "Yall better git ready for the battle tomorra." The Engineer said before leaving me to unpack. As I began to unpack what little baggage I had, I couldn't help but feel nervous. I mean, I know about the respawn, but you only respawn once a battle. Die again, and your dead for good. I sat down on the dusty bed, wondering if I made the right choice.
...
"MAGGOTS, YOU'D BETTER BE READY TO HAVE YOUR ASS KICKED UNLESS YOU DRAG IT OUT OF BED NOW!" Solly yelled as he walked down the hall. I groaned as I dragged myself out of bed. I struggled getting dress, while rubbing the sleep out of my eyes. It had been a long night, now it was worse with Soldier.
I walked into the kitchen, everybody doing their own thing. Heavy was making sandwiches, and Medic was fooling with his Medi-Gun. The German looked up as I walked in. "Guten tag, Herr Scout!" He spoke as I walked over to the refrigerator, and grabbed a can of Bonk. As I sipped the contents, Demoman walked, drunken as ever. He stumbled in, slurring out curse words as he bumped into anything in his path. "Ay, *hic* mate, ready ta *hic* kill the wee red b-*hic* -asterds?" He slurred before falling into the table, snoring loudly. I bit my lip to keep from laughing.
As I walked to the spawn room, I heard a whoosh behind me. I spun around, only to feel a cool, metal object pressed up against my neck. I was pulled by something, or someone. I started shaking, only to be let go, followed by laughter. "Zhe Scout is too gullible!" A French accent said. I sighed and turned to see the Spy laughing. "Zhe look on your face..." Spy said as he breathed heavily. I felt my face turn red with embarrassment. I quickly turned around and walked through the spawn room doors.
"Mission begins in 30 seconds!" The Announcer spoke through the PA system. I put on my hat, along with my headset. I finished wrapping up my hands, and grabbed my bat, doing some warm up swings. I then grabbed my scattergun, feeling the wooden grips beneath my fingers. "Mission begins in 10 seconds!" Another announcement came over the PA. I lined up at the large metal garage-styled door, waiting for it to open.
"...5..."
You'll be fine, I told myself.
"...4..."
Be careful...
"...3..."
Run fast...
"...2..."
Shoot, point and shoot...
"...1!"
The door flew open as we ran words the battlefield. My heart was pounding as I ran way ahead of everyone else.As I approached the center, I saw the other spawn. I ducked behind a rock, planning what to do next. I grabbed my bat, took a deep breath, and ran as hard as I could. I ran straight pass the enemy Heavy without him being able to take a shot. I ran, not knowing where to go as I went straight into the enemy base, trying to locate the brief case. I turned down a promising looking hallway, only to hear a loud beeping sound. I skidded to a halt, leaning against a wall. I peaked around the corner, of course, there was a enemy sentry. The engineer stood close to his sentry, wielding his shotgun. I turned the other way and ran, hoping for a better route to win this wretched game.
To be continued...
