Marinette / Amari’s POV

My name is Marinette Dupain-Cheng or as my friends call me Mari. I am the beloved daughter of two loving bakers. I've lived In Paris my whole life. Now here's the deal everything I just told you up to this point, it's a lie. A very well kept one to protect me and my family. Now that you know the lie, I can tell you my true story and this is where it all began.  My real name is Amari Al-Guhl. Yes, Al-Guhl. Ra's Al-Guhl goes by many names from all over the world. Some of which are Demon, Devil, Demons Head, Assassin, even father, but to me Ra's Al-Guhl is my Grandfather. My mother is Talia Al-Guhl and my brother, heir to the demon, is Damian Al-Guhl. Damian was born when I was 4. Mother explained to me that I would never be the Demons head because Grandfather wanted a male heir. I was a little upset but honestly I was happy for my little brother. He would have a grand future awaiting him, and I would be there right by his side.

As Damian grew older we became closer by the time he turned 10. We stuck together like glue. In the league birthdays hold no major significance. We always celebrated our day together, but since we were the grandchildren of the Demon our birthday held some importance. It was my 14th birthday and Damians 10th when our lives changed, we knew that they would never be the same ever again. The league had been breached, mother grabbed me and Damian and led us to a secure area and left to go fight. We struck down a few assassins here and there but what caught my eye was a figure running towards the door that I recognized, was the room that secured the lazarus pits. I ran towards the room as Damian followed, then suddenly a pillar started to crumble and it started to fall. I shoved Damian out of the way, separating me from him. I hit my head and was fighting off unconsciousness. Suddenly, I saw a figure. I tried to get into a fighting stance, but I was too weak to even move.  When I could finally see the person's face, I recognized her as my Aunt Nyssa. I let down my guard. She grabbed my arm and yanked me out and she said " Are you alright Amari?" I replied with "Yes, but Damian he's…" I started to tear up and I braced myself for a slap across the face because emotions were considered a weakness in the league, something that had been drilled into my head since birth. But instead I got a hug as Aunt Nyssa rubbed my back and said it's OK. What felt like hours later, even though I knew it was only a few minutes. She said " We must go, this place is no longer safe. Father was killed as well." I asked "Aunt Nyssa where are we going?" She just grabbed my arm and started walking.

We boarded a private plane that I assumed belonged to the league. A couple hours later I saw an iron spire and I said "Aunt Nyssa why are we in France?" She said " I have some connections here and I can set you up with a fake identity until your mother comes for you. I know you don't want to hear this but now that Damian is dead you are the only heir and the time will come for you to fulfill your destiny. Your mother is meeting us at the place where you will be staying. The woman is an ex assassin, she is married to a baker. They own the Tom and Sabine Dupain-Cheng Bakery. Think about this as an undercover mission, you are to take up the personality of a kind, bubbly girl who stutters and is very clumsy. It will be the perfect cover for you." I nodded my head and we got off the plane and headed to a car. Aunt Nyssa got in the driver's seat and I got in the passenger seat. We drove until we arrived in front of a small bakery just like my Aunt had told me. We stepped out of the car and not even a minute later another car pulled up and my mother stepped out. I looked at her and saw no sign of grief or sadness of losing her son but I brushed it off and walked towards her. Mother came up to me and gave me a hug saying "I'm glad you're alright Amari, I don't know what I would do if I lost both you and Damian." With this action she surprised me. I said "Thank-you mother, I am glad you are alright as well." She broke apart the hug and said " I assume Nyssa told you the plan, I will return for you. When you turn 18 I will take you home, In 4 years." Then she pulled out a small chain and on it was the league symbol and my name engraved in gold lettering on it. I looked closer at it and saw a green glow that I had only seen once in my life. The Lazarus Pits. She said " Happy Birthday Amari, This necklace contains water from the Lazarus pit. I went to a sorcerer in Nanda Parbat and had her enchant it. As long as you wear this it will protect you and Damian will never be far." I nodded my head and started to tear up as I realized that it was a locket. I opened it and saw one side containing the water of the Lazarus pit and the other had a small photo of me, mother and Damian. I noticed that the picture was taken last year on our birthday.  I nodded my head and thanked mother and gave her a hug and she said " I know I don't show it much, but I do love you Amari". I nodded my head and said "I love you too mother." I walked in and greeted the people who would pose as my parents until I returned with mother. Until then goodbye Amari Al-Guhl, Hello Marinette Dupain-Cheng.
