It is your first day moving into your new apartment in the city. You grew up in a suburban town with just your dad and no siblings so it felt good to finally go out and become your own person. As you began to unpack into your new room you heard a knock on your bedroom door, it was your new roommate. "Hey so you must be my roommate, so listen I just wanted to welcome and thank you for agreeing to split this apartment with me I'm so glad I don't have to stay in one of those shitty dorms." She said. "It's really no problem this helps you as much as it helps me. I'm y/n by the way." You replied. You started to take note on her appearance she had dressed very comfortably wearing a sweater, shorts and some converse. Yet she had a eyebrow piercing and half of her head shaved. "Nice to meet you y/n, I'm Gwen. If you want after you're all done in here we could go out and I'll give you a tour. I grew up down the street so I can show you the in and outs." She continued with a grin on her face and you saw excitement in her eyes as you nodded your head. Maybe this move wouldn't be too bad.
As you laced up your shoes and walked out into the living room you caught a peek into one of her boxes and saw a framed picture of her with another girl with vibrant red hair and green eyes. You at first considered it could be her sister but they looked nothing alike. You ultimately decided on the idea that it was probably her best friend or a cousin. You didn't realize you were staring at the box until Gwen called for you from the front door. As you both make it to the lobby of your building Gwen begins conversation. "So I'm assuming you saw the picture I had in my box?" You panicked not wanting to come off as a stalker or some kind of creep and replied with "yeah I'm sorry. Your best friend just caught my eye". Without even thinking you gave away your initial thoughts. Gwen began to laugh as you increasingly became more concerned for how you came off. "That's not my best friend. That's my girlfriend." You've both arrived at a small library at this time. You gave Gwen a confused look and she smiled and lead you up the stairs in the library that lead to a small cafe above it all. The cafe gave off a steampunk vibe to it. It was beautiful.
You both ordered your drinks and sat down shortly after. "So are you like super weirded out that I have a girlfriend?" Gwen asked giving you a playful grin. "No not at all I just didn't expect it. You two make a very lovely couple." You replied now feeling more relieved with an opportunity to explain yourself. "Thank you, I miss Mary so much I thought I'd have a couple pictures of her around the house if you don't mind." You made a mental note of her girlfriend's name just in case it was brought up in future conversation. "I don't mind at all. Don't even worry about it." You replied with a warm welcoming smile. "Same here so if you want pictures of your partner or family around go for it." The words sank into you as you replayed the words your father said to you before you moved out. "Oh I wouldn't expect much other than maybe a painting or two." You said with a smile in an attempt to press down the words ringing in your ears. "So if you're not from the area why did you move here? Or is it just because this school is your dream school or something?" Gwen asked. Her attempts to actually get to know you made you feel appreciated and heard. She was really growing on you. "Well this school is in a large city which I cannot complain about. However I also have an internship at this business in the area." You said as humbly as possible trying not to come off as arrogant. "Ooooooo what business because if it's the police then I can hook you up real well or if it's that hotel down the street" she explained. "No not any of those." You replied still not trying to give it away. "Then which is it?" She pried. "It's just a small job at alpha 8 it's not a big deal." You replied quietly. "ALPHA 8?! YOU'RE KIDDING?!" She replied in utter shock, she almost spat out her coffee. "THAT'S LIKE THE BIGGEST BUSINESS COMPANY IN THE COUNTRY!!" She continued still in shock. "Yeah that's why I decided to take the opportunity I figured it would look good on any resume." You replied trying not to come off as cocky.
You both continued to talk and get to know each other for the next two hours. You learned that her dad was the chief of police in the area along with a bit about her best friend Hobie. He sounded fun to be around. You were excited to meet him.
When you both made it back to the apartment it was late and you both had classes the next morning so you said your good nights and went to bed. You were hopefully for this new opportunity away from home.
