XAVIER'S POV

I sat in the sterile doctor's office, the smell of disinfectant stinging my nose as I anxiously tapped my foot on the tiled floor. The walls seemed to close in on me, as if the weight of the world was pressing down on my shoulders. The doctor entered the room, his expression grave, and my heart sank even further.

"Xavier," he said, his voice laced with sympathy, "I'm afraid I have some devastating news for you." My breath caught in my throat, and I could feel the blood draining from my face. "You have been diagnosed with an aggressive form of pancreatic cancer. I'm truly sorry, but there is no cure. With the current prognosis, you only have approximately 10 days left to live."

The words hung heavy in the air, crushing me with their finality. Ten days. That was all I had left. Ten days to say my goodbyes, to come to terms with my mortality, and to face the impending void that awaited me. The doctor continued speaking, but his words became a distant buzz as I tried to process the enormity of what he had just revealed.

As I stumbled out of the hospital, my mind a swirling tempest of emotions, I felt an ache in my chest. It wasn't just the physical pain of the disease that gnawed at me, but also the heartache that awaited me outside those cold, clinical walls.

Meredith, my girlfriend of three years, stood before me, her eyes puffy and red from crying. I could see the fear etched across her face as she whispered, "Xavier, I'm scared. Scared of what the future holds for us." Her words pierced my heart like a thousand tiny needles, and the realization hit me hard. She was breaking up with me.

Tears welled up in my eyes, my voice trembling with emotion. "You're leaving me?" I choked out, my voice barely above a whisper. "After everything we've been through?" The pain in my chest intensified as she confirmed my worst fears.

"I'm sorry, Xavier. I met someone else. His name is Marco. He makes me feel safe, like there's a future worth living for." Each word struck me like a dagger, shattering the fragments of hope I had left. The woman I loved was slipping away, seeking solace in the arms of another.

Tears streamed down my face, blurring my vision as Meredith's words echoed in my ears. The world around me seemed to fade into insignificance, and all that remained was the searing pain in my chest. How could she do this to me? How could she abandon me in my darkest hour?

The weight of her confession pressed down on me, threatening to crush me beneath its unbearable heaviness. The once-vibrant colors of our memories together turned dull and lifeless, and the love that had once bloomed between us now withered away, leaving only desolation in its wake.

"Marco," I repeated, my voice filled with a mixture of disbelief and anguish. "So, he's the reason you're leaving? The reason you're discarding our love like it meant nothing?" My voice cracked, each word laced with a bitterness that I could no longer contain.

Meredith's eyes flickered with a hint of remorse, but it was overshadowed by the resolve in her voice. "I'm sorry, Xavier, but I can't bear the weight of your impending death. I need someone who can give me a future, who can offer me hope."

Her words tore through me like a hurricane, ripping apart the fragile remnants of my heart. The pain was unbearable, as if a thousand blades had been thrust into my chest, twisting and turning with every beat of my broken heart.

"What about our dreams, our plans?" I pleaded, desperation seeping into my voice. "What about the life we were supposed to build together?"

Meredith's gaze dropped to the floor, her voice barely a whisper. "Those dreams... they're impossible now. I can't watch you suffer, Xavier. I need to find my own happiness."
