Reckless Past

Chapter One

Leni opened the door to see the four year old girl she adopted just today sleeping soundly on the bed and a smile appeared on her face. She has been willing to adopt a child at the age of eighteen since her parents passed away in terrible car accident when she turned thirteen. With sorrow, she grew up, almost lonely in the mansion passed on to her by her parents. The money her parents left was more than enough to take her through schooling till she took after her dad's clinic. Immediately she turned fifteen, after finishing medical school at seventeen and one year training, she took after her dad's clinic which has been waiting for her for the past three years. The day she entered the clinic as a medical doctor and the CEO of the clinic, she was greeted with a bow by everyone who met her. The nurses and doctors just hoped she was hardworking, courteous, punctual and respectful as her father. The workers were awestruck by her unique beauty. Leni had shiny black hair with flawless fair skin,deep blue eyes and cute lips. The workers were not surprised that she took after her mum who was also had such quality beauty.
Leni closed the door slowly and returned to her room. She lied on the bed as she smiled when she recalled when, Marie, her new daughter uttered the word 'Mummy' to her. At first, she thought it would take a long time for them to get familiar with each other. She decided to give the girl enough time to get familiar with her. To her surprise, while in the orphanage, Marie asked,"are you my new mummy?". Leni bent down and smiled, "Yes, dear. You can call me mummy" she replied and cupped her cheeks. "Ok mummy" Marie said laying more emphasis on the mummy. When they got home, Leni took her out of the car and Marie exclaimed "Woah mummy, the building is huge". Leni giggled " Dear, you will be staying here, your new home, our home. But before we enter, may I ask your name?" She asked. "I don't have a name, I was never noticed in the orphanage" the girl sighed. "Aww, How about I give you a name, huh?" She asked. She nodded. "How about Marie? , Do you like it? " Leni asked. "Yes please, thank you" she appreciated. Leni smiled and guided her inside the house. They were greeted by maids. A maid whispered something to Leni and she just said "no, I will do it myself". She walked upstairs with Marie and she could see that the girl was mesmerized by the beauty of the house, the grandness of the hall and the attractive paintings on the walls. " would you like to take a shower, Marie? "She asked. She nodded. Leni smiled and led her to a certain room. The room was huge, enough for three people with a huge wardrobe and a well laid king-sized bed. The was another big wardrobe filled with toys and playing items.There was a nice decorative door leading to the bathroom. "This is your room, Marie" she turned to the girl. " All... All for me? "She asked. "Yes, dear. Why don't you take a quick shower and we will have dinner, okay?. Would you like me to help you? " she offered. She nodded. "Ok, why don't you take a shower, I will bring your towel and your dress" she said. Marie entered the washroom with awe. The bathroom was huge with a large bath tub and next to it was a shower room. She entered and took a shower. After the shower, she noticed a towel and neat clothes hanging. She quickly wore her clothes and stepped out. She immediately let out a "thank you" when she saw Leni. "You are welcome, dear. Let's go and eat" She held Marie's hand and let her downstairs. When they got to the dining hall, food was already served. "It's sushi and pasta, lasagna. Which one do you prefer, dear? " Leni asked politely. "Can I have Lasagna please?" Marie asked. "Sure, anything you want" Leni smiled. She made Marie sit and she served her lasagna. Observing how Marie was eating, she could see she was really hungry. She smiled and sat to eat too. Marie ate with continuous nod indicating that the food was delicious. "Marie" Leni called. "Yes mummy" Marie responded. "I want you to start school on Monday, would you like that? " Leni asked. "Ouuuu, school. I have heard about it. They have tables and chairs and people and everything" Leni giggled, "Yes please, I want to go to school" she finally answered. "Hmm, sure. We will go for the admission on Monday, and on Tuesday you start, okay? "She explained and Marie replied. After dinner, Leni put Marie to sleep and went to her room, took a long shower and laid on the bed to sleep. She was woken by the ringtone from her phone. " You adopted a child and you didn't tell me" a familiar voice gently said. "Uncle... I... You know aunty. She would burn with anger. I wanted to tell you at office tomorrow" she replied. Her father's brother, Gabriel was someone who really cares for Leni's welfare but his wife, Helen, despised her. Gabriel has insisted that Leni stayed with them after her parents' death but Leni politely refused and preferred staying in her home, given to her by her parents and also wanted to be free from Helen. Helen had already refused to allow Leni stay with them. "Ok, see me at the office tomorrow, I want to talk to you" Gabriel ordered. "Ok, uncle, I will be there and I'll show you my new daughter" she hunged up the call and gradually slept off.
