The Beginning

In the beginning I was just a stable boy at this castle. My mother was the Queen's seamstress and my father a chef. Two noble positions in a castle. I was about 10 when I had met Tommy.

"Thomas do not go far on Jessup. You have fencing lessons!" A woman called from the side exit of the castle. I was all of 4' and some when I was 10 so I couldn't see who she was speaking to until he came in.

Thomas was brunette with grey green eyes and the kind of smile I wished to have. I have a gap in my teeth, he didn't. He stopped when he saw me and I knew he wasn't happy to see me.

"Who are you? My god had a peasant found their way into the kingdom?! Oh goodness." He goes to shout when the stable master, Ryan, walks in with two buckets of water. "Stable master who is this boy?!" Thomas demanded.

"This is...well I don't actually know his name but his parents work here and so by design so does he. He's gonna be helping me in the stables until someone needs replacing."

Thomas pouted at the fact he couldn't get me in trouble and I just went to wash one of the horses as he talked to Ryan.

"I'm supposed to be riding Jessup today is she here? I was told I get some time before I have to do other things."

"other princely things you mean?" Ryan smiled at Thomas and ruffled his hair.

"How dare you!" Thomas got angry but then he laughed as Ryan picked him up and out him on Jessup.

"You, ten year old, prince, are not yet king. You cannot scare me. I'm older than you and I'm far better at horse riding than you are. "

Thomas shrugged and smiled at me. "I'll give you a name when I come back." He rode off quickly, hooting and hollering into the forest.

Ryan looked at me and nodded before cleaning another horse.

When Thomas came back I was having a snack in the corner of the stable next to Amphitrite. She was a gorgeous horse and we always sat together. I had a small knife in my hand and was cutting small bits of the apple to feed myself and then to give one to her.

Thomas and Jessup galloped back in so loudly it scared me and I cut my thumb with the knife. I quickly rushed to a bucket hoping to find water but there was none. Ryan has gone to get us both food and he was probably talking to my father so it'd be a while.

Thomas hopped off Jessup and looked at me with a smile before seeing my hand. "Dear goodness. Come with me. " he brought me inside the castle, all while I was saying I couldn't be in here. He took me up and down stairs before we landed at a door and he knocked as hard as he could. The door opened and it revealed a woman about my mother's age it seemed.

"Oh hello Thomas how can i- oh hello. Oh goodness you're bleeding come in. " she brought up both in and set me on a bed that was plain in design.

She got several things and told Thomas he could leave but he refused.

"I have to make sure he's okay." Thomas sat next to me and he was quiet the whole time I was being treated. "Okay I know what to call you!"

"What?" The nurse asked with a giggle.

"Not you, him. Drustan. It means riot. I read it in this big big book."

"You're family history is not the place to find a name. Then he's probably named after a very great uncle or grandfather. "

"I like it so it stays."

And so I became Drustan. My mama and papa started calling me that as well and so did Ryan.

And that was the beginning of my life with Thomas.
