CHAPTER 07: ONE WHO FALLS
I stare at my image in the mirror.
A braided ponytail was done on my long, straight black hair. My natural features were highlighted by the minimal makeup I used. I was dressed in a draped white midi shirt dress by Lafayette 148 over a brown double breasted trench coat. In order to look more put together, I also donned some heels.
Once again, I sighed heavily. This is the day that I wish would never come.
“Bakit ang bilis ng panahon?” reklamo ko.
I picked up my phone to see a text message from our family driver who just arrived in front of the condo to pick me. I tried to smile in front of the mirror to cheer myself up but I immediately frown because its no use at all.
Umalis na ako sa condo unit ko. I double checked the locks before leaving.
A few moments later the elevator arrived in the ground floor. Its one of his collection of expensive luxurious cars.
I smiled at him before entering and he immediately close the door.
“Good morning Ma'am Mary” he greeted.
"Good morning din po Manong Edgar" I replied.
Ever since I have remember he has worked for our family for a very long time. I think I never seen him got angry before. He's always calm and compose, often just smiles over everything.
He's always so nice and kind towards me that's why I'm comfortable with him.
“Nandoon na ba si Ate Catalina?” I asked.
I had never felt particularly close to any of my brothers, as far as I could recall. They never showed me affection or concern. We haven't seen each other much since we were kids, so we never really grew close. Even talking to me is rare for them. I only had a close relationship with my older sister, Catalina, who despite being a lot older than me were frequently with me throughout my childhood. Since our mother is often preoccupied with our other businesses, she acts as a mother figure to me and often watches out for me. But sometimes I hate her positiveness.
