My name is Sato Kurayami, I am sixteen years old. And after so long of being alone and refusing to make friends, I finally made one. But, I'm not sure if I have feelings for her yet. Akari, she's my friend... And, she's actually bringing light and happiness into my life.

It's been hard with just my dad and I. He works as a cop so he's not home most of the time. And, I guess he doesn't want to be, after mom died... It's probably too painful, so he just wants to run away from it all. To get his mind off things. I guess I did that for awhile too, but not anymore.

I felt bad for not singing with Akari, but it's just so hard to do normal things anymore. It's so hard to move on, to be like the old me. But, I promise one day, I will sing to her. I want to protect her, and to keep her happy. She doesn't deserve anything in this terrible world, from terrible people...

The next day at school in our music class I saw Akari again. I talked to her in our classroom throughout the day but she was mostly talking and I just listened.

"Oh hey Kurayami, that reminds me, didn't you wana eat up on the roof for lunch?" She asks me.

"Yeah, that's right. Lunch is after this class. So let's just get our stuff from our classroom and go up there then." I tell her.

"Sure, sounds cool. I got some extra food today that I packed if you want some?" Akari tells me smiling.

"Oh! Sure, that's nice." I smile.

"I cooked some yesturday with my mom, she's a really good cook. She's teaching me how to make better food, so hopefully it tastes alright." Akari giggles.

A cute girl cooking me food. Do I deserve something this nice?

"I'm sure anything you make would taste good Akari." I tell her.

"Well, I wouldn't say that. I messed up pretty bad cause Bluey my ra- uh, I mean, my cat was jumping all around the food and messing with everything and trying to eat stuff. Heheh." Akari laughs

"Oh that's okay, I didn't know you had a cat. Do you have any other pets?" I ask her.

"Um well... I have two cats." Akari says awkwardly.

"I just have a dog, his name is Hudson." I say smiling.

"Wow, that's an interesting name for a dog." Akari laughs.

"Yeah, I got to name him when I was like five so I don't know what I was thinking at that age. He's pretty old now, but he's a really good dog." I look away thinking about past memories.

"Aw, he sounds so cute. I would love to see your dog!" Akari exclaims.

My eyes widen. "Oh, yeah sure. Maybe one day..."

But then the teacher comes in and class starts.

I started standing next to Akari for our choir class, but I always made sure I sang quietly so she didn't hear me. I really didn't feel like singing much but I tried. It made me feel like I was lying to myself, lying about being happy. But, I did also get to hear her beautiful voice.

I looked over to her as she sang. She was smiling looking down at the music sheet, her blue eyes were shining. I smiled as I watched her, then looked back at my paper as I sang along.

Class ended and we walked out of the room together to our classroom and grabbed our lunches and started going up a couple flights of stairs to the roof. I opened the heavy doors and the warm wind hit our faces and the light from the sun hit our eyes. I walked over to the fence and sat down.

"Oh wow look at the view! It's so cool up here!" Akari said running over and climbing up on the fence.

I started unpacking my food. I looked up and laughed at her.
