As far as Dianne can remember, it has always been her and her older sister, the image of her mother was faint and she have no father.

Her half-older sister was the one that raised her until age 18 when suddenly a man claiming to be her biological father appeared, the man offered riches and Dianne had no qualms or remorse leaving the one that raised her behind.

Her father said he compensated her half-sister so any inkling of guilt was gone, she thought it was just like stories she read, and from that moment her life will only be uphill, but then she found she was not the only daughter, she was only the third one in the 5 children the man sired.

She fought with her half sisters over their father's affection, she threw herself to learning languages, how to act like a noble lady, went to parties looking for connections, doing everything to make her father look at her with slightest bit of affection... She spent 20+ years doing that, focusing on that goal only, even when the one who raised was on her deathbed and her(the one who raised her) husband begged to atleast visit her dying sister, but Dianne coldly pushed him away.

Then the scheme of an enemy of her father injured her deeply, and in her dying moments she hoped to see atleast pity in her father's eyes but all she saw was disappointment, she wanted to ask why but her body was too weak to talk...

Tears dropped as she closed her eyes and let death take her.

....

"Dianne! You brat wake up! Don't you have classes today?"

Her eyes opened wide, and what greeted her was the familiar old ceiling that Dianne saw during the first 17 years of her life, not moving, she listened to her surroundings, the familiar sound of cooking... The familiar voice she once find annoying...

Getting up quickly, she fell from her bed with a loud thump, yet despite her hips hurting she stands up and run downstairs and as she reached the kitchen, tears started falling from her eyes.

"Dianne don't run around-- why are you crying?"

"Sis..." Dianne cried loudly for the first time in a long time, she hugged her sister tightly they nearly toppled over.

Penelope was confused but pats her sister's back, "What's wrong? Did you have a nightmare? Didn't I teel you to stop watching horror movies before you sleep?"

Dianne felt her heart being squeezed, Penelope always scolded her and she hated it so much that she left her sister, the one that raised her, behind the moment she got a chance.
Guilt and relief filled Dianne, her sister was just 18 when their mother died and Penelope had to stop her schooling to look for jobs to raise her, Penelope scolds her a lot because hse also do a lot of stupid things, the kind woman merely wants her to grow up right, yet she stomped on that kindness like the ungrateful brat she is and didn't even give face to her husband when Penelope was dying.

She shook her head no and wetly grins, "I love you sis." Penelope looked at Dianne funny and rubbed her head, "You want something don't you? Or did you do something again and you want me to clean up your mess?"

She said with a resigned smile on her face, despite only being 26 years old, she looked around 40 due to overworking and stress.

Dianne cried again and Penelope wiped away her tears comforting her, "Stop crying Didi, you look ugly you know. Here." She took out her wallet and gave her a hundred pesos, "Buy some ice cream."
With the hundred bill on her hand, Dianne shook her head, wanting to refuse but not forming words enough to talk, her emotions overwhelming her.

"You want more?! Fine fine, just stop crying, people would think I'm bullying you if they saw your face..."

Was it a dream?

Penelope fussed around her, and tears can't stop falling from Dianne's eyes, during that 20+ years with her half sisters on her father's side, she realized how much Penelope loved her, how much this precious woman sacrificed to raise her little sister, she chased for that man's love, yearning for a parental figure's affection when all along Penelope was there.

Dianne had enough chasing affection from brick hearted people, Dianne promised herself to repay those who cherished her a hundred times.

A dream or not, a second chance like this won't be given again to a person like her...

So she'll use it well, that she can promise.
