Hero was tagged
The sound of birds chirping from outside filled my ears. My eyes fluttered open as I let out a big yawn.
I stretched my arms and legs, forgetting that everyone else was sleeping below me. Everyone but Kel...
My heart skipped a beat, and I rushed out of bed. I searched through our bedroom and bathroom, but he wasn't there.
I was starting to freak out a little. 'Did something bad happen to him?'
I realized I haven't checked the kitchen, and did just that. I raced down the stairs, almost tripping as I did. Then I darted into the kitchen.
Kel was standing at the kitchen counter cutting up some watermelon.
"Oh, morning Hero. I'm just starting breakfast." Kel said as he noticed me. "Er... Are you alright? You look kind of pale-"
I walked up and hugged him for a few seconds before letting go. "I'm okay, don't worry. I'm still kind of waking up, so..."
Kel looked confused, but smiled. "Maybe you could help with making some toast."
"Sounds good." I replied as I got out some slices of bread. Then I put them in the toaster, pushing the lever down until it clicked in place.
All I had to do was wait.
... And wait.
...
And wait.
Why was the toast taking so long?
I heard Kel clear his throat gently. "Well... Sunny is coming back today."
I didn't answer.
"To be honest, I don't know what to feel right now." Kel waited for me to answer, but I was still quiet. So he continued. "on one hand, it's awesome to see an old friend after a while. But on the other hand, there were some... Issues, I guess you could call them."
"You're not wrong." I finally said. "Not to mention that we're not exactly in the right mental state at the moment."
Kel chuckled nervously. "Yeah..."
"It's kind of weird how we're all suddenly bursting apart right when we're expecting a guest." I said.
Kel hesitated. "Kind of what you said before, if you bottle up your emotions for too long, the just come right back out unexpectedly."
I nodded as the toast popped out of the toaster. I grabbed them quickly so not to burn myself, then gathered them all on a plate.
Kel looked inside the fridge. "We're out of bacon and eggs..."
"It's okay," I replied. "This should suffice."
Eventually Basil woke up. Aubrey slept in super late, which was... mildly concerning... but she eventually woke up as well.
Breakfast was silent pretty much the whole time. Basil tried starting a few conversations, but it became awkward after a bit.
After we ate, Aubrey and Basil headed home to get dressed. Then about an hour later, we all decided to meet up at the park.
"Hey guys," said Basil walking up to the rest of us. "I have some news..."
"Well? What it is?" Aubrey asked, her eyes lighting up with curiosity.
"Sunny is meeting us here at the park." replied Basil.
The silence was so loud.
"So... he could be here any minute now??" Kel asked.
Basil nodded nervously.
'I don't even know what to say...' I thought.
We all turned around to the sound of a car pulling in. I could feel my heart pounding in my chest, I already knew what was about to happen.
