Silence.
She could watch her parents argue in silence, watching their lips move rapidly and harshly at each other. Her mother could only look over at her and motion her to leave the room, silence.
Her childhood wasn't like the rest. It was rather quiet. Born into a family that struggled to understand her deafness, she often felt like an outsider, isolated by a barrier that separated her from the cacophony of sounds that filled their home.
It didn't help with school either, the children were ruthless.
"LOOK ITS DEAF GIRL!"
One of the boys shouted causing the other children to run away from the girl, their squeals could be heard around the playground except for her. The small girl stood there confused watching as her classmates ran away, she walked over towards the slides where others gave her dirty looks.
"Be careful! She might make you deaf!" One of the girls snarled, "she might spread her disease!"
"Ew!"
The worst part? Lip reading all that.
Being ridicule and scorn. Day after day, she endured the stings of rejection. Everytime trying to blend in, she was pushed away. Her small heart heavy with the weight of loneliness and despair.
The young girl walked out of the playground and to the table benches where she could only watch the other kids play, she could watch in silence as they seemed happy. Why weren't they like this with her?
Sitting alone, her eyes fixated to the ground while the tears welled up in her eyes. She could see shoes walk into her view before they stood next to her, she hesitantly looked up.
Hesitantly looking up, she met the eyes of ones that seemed to be smiling at her.
A girl with dark brown hair, looking at her with a smile. One she was unfamiliar with. Without a word, the girl sat down beside her, offering a comforting presence that spoke volumes in the silence between them.
her lips moved.
Her eyebrows frowned in confusion causing the other to look at her confused also.
She pointed to her ears and made an 'X' with her fingers to tell her, it seemed to work as the other nods.
The girl quickly reached in her lunch bag and pulled out a small notepad along with a crayon, she seemed to be determined to write whatever she wanted. Once done, she placed the notepad down and slid it over to the girl besides her.
Hi I'm Jisoo :)
Jisoo watched as the girl looked at the notepad and up at her, she hands the girl the purple crayon and watches as the girl took it.
Hello I'm Chaeyoung
"Chaeyoung?" Jisoo repeated to herself, "Sounds like a lovely name."
Thank you
"You understand what I'm saying?" Jisoo asks confused.
