"Virek! Virek! Open up!"
Pissed off that someone would be banging on his door, Virek stormed down the stairs and angrily pulled the door open. "Have you gone mad?"
"I need to talk to you."
Frowning at Drue, he stepped to the side and allowed her to walk inside. "You could've rang me," he said, letting the door slam shut.
"I know but it's–" she stopped when she realized that Virek was standing there without a shirt on. Although she had seen his chest before, he looked completely different now that his wounds were completely healed. His messy hair was pulled up into a messy bun and his jeans hung ever so slightly on his hips. "--you mind putting some clothes on?"
"Actually, I do. Now what is so important that it couldn't wait?"
"I think the Seelie Court has Evan."
"I'm sure they do."
Confused by the monotony in his voice, Drue narrowed her eyes. "You knew that already?"
"I had an inkling."
"But you're not in a rush to... I don't know, save him?"
"Evan is a Light and he's also a Guardian," Virek said, matter-of-factly. "If they kill him, they'll have to explain his absence, which won't be easy. So I'm sure I have time." He walked into the kitchen and poured himself a drink.
"How can you be so sure?" Drue asked.
"I never said I was. Like I said, I had an inkling." Taking a sip, he looked at Drue and raised an eyebrow. "Is that why you rushed over here? To tell me something I already knew?"
"Well, I didn't know you already knew. But yeah, sort of."
"So?"
"My mom was attacked by Mercenaries two days ago."
"Is she dead?"
"No, thank God. She's fine but that's-that's not the point."
"Then what is?" he asked, walking over to the couch. He sat down and rested his arm on the back of the couch.
"I just told you," Drue said, following him. "My mom was attacked by Mercenaries and nearly killed."
"But you also said she survived."
"Virek, are you even listening to me? Did you hear what I just said? I just told you that my mom was attacked and you didn't even flinch."
"I wasn't aware I was meant to?"
Drue let out an exasperated sigh. "I know you're still mad that she lied to you, but you could at least pretend to be concerned," she said. "At least for my sake."
"And why would I do that?"
"Seriously?"
"If we're being honest with one another, I'm actually surprised that you're so concerned."
"What? What the hell is that supposed to mean?" Drue asked, her brow creasing. "Why wouldn't I be concerned? She's my mother, Virek!"
"I'm fully aware of who she is, Drue. But I'm also aware of the fact that she not only lied to me, she lied to you too."
"I know what she did but she was attacked. I think that might override any anger I had for her before."
Virek shrugged. "Okay."
"What is wrong with you?"
"Nothing, love."
"Then why are you acting like this?" Drue asked. "If I was sitting here telling you that one of the twins was killed, you would've murdered half of the city already."
