My mistake (Gwiles)

Chapter 3

Gwen got back to her universe.
"Gwen, how was seeing your friend?" George asked.

"It was good. But I'm going to stay in his universe for a while to help him deal with his dad's death." Gwen said.

"Okay, just come to visit so I know you're okay," George said as Gwen started packing a duffel bag with clothes, her suit, and toiletries, and she zipped up the bag.

"I will, Dad, I promise." Gwen said, "Seeing Miles go through this reminded me of how I was when Mom died. I wish I had a friend around to help me through it. That's why I'm going to help Miles through this." Gwen said.

"Your mother would be proud of you, Gwen. Even if she's not here, she's watching over you." George said as Gwen hugged him.

"I know, Dad, I'll come visit soon," Gwen said as she opened the portal to Miles' universe and went through.

Gwen was surprised to see Miles in his room. "You took so long that I decided to come back here," Miles said.

"Yeah, I talked about my mom with my dad," Gwen said.

"Do you miss her?" Miles asked.

"Every day, but I know she's always with me," Gwen said as a portal opened.

"Miles Gwen, how are you?" Peter asked, holding Mayday.

"I'm fine. Better than I have been, thanks to Gwen." Miles said.

"How is she not glitching?" Gwen asked.

"Hobie made her an interdimensional bracelet," Peter said.

"You said I was the reason you had Mayday. What did I say that changed your mind?" Miles asked.

"You taught me I could have a future with MJ," Peter said as Mayday climbed on the walls.

"This was the picture she took during the chase," Peter said, showing them.

"Oh, and she smiled. Mayday will be one talented Spider-Woman." Gwen said.

"Oh, that's what I came here to ask since you two were primarily the reason I had her. Will you be her spider godparents?" Peter asked.

"Sure, but how would you be so sure Gwen would be here?" Miles asked.

"I had a hunch, and it was correct," Peter said.

"So you haven't had any trouble with Miguel since we left?" Peter asked.

"No, not since the canon event happened....." Miles said.

"Peter, I just got him to smile. Why would you ask him that?" Gwen said.

"Because I'm worried about him," Peter said.

"I'm fine, better than I was before Gwen came," Miles said.

"How is your relationship with each other?" Peter asked.

"Well, I introduced Gwen to my Abuela," Miles said.

"So things are getting serious?" Peter said, raising an eyebrow.

"No, nothing like that." Gwen immediately said as she went up to the roof.

"She still blames herself for what happened...." Peter said.

"I forgave her. She just needs to forgive herself." Miles said.

Meanwhile, on the roof with Gwen. 'He was in that situation because of me. If I had told him sooner, maybe none of this would have happened.....' Gwen thought as Peter sat beside her.

"You know that avoiding your feelings means you want to be with Miles," Peter said.

"I hurt him regardless of what he said. I know I did. I could see it in his eyes during that whole chase and when we saved him....." Gwen said, looking down.

"We both messed up, Gwen, but sometimes relationships grow because of arguments," Peter said.

"I want to, but I don't want to hurt him again...." Gwen said, looking down.

"But it's my mistake. I should have told him when I first came." Gwen said.

"Okay, Gwen, I'll leave you up here, but spend some time with Mayday. Well, you're up here." Peter said going to get Mayday, then came back up and gave her to Gwen, then went back inside.

"Gwen needs time to forgive herself. She's afraid of hurting you again, kid," Peter said.

"You left her with Mayday to cheer her up?" Miles asked.

"Yep, Mayday will put a smile on her face," Peter said.

"Mi hijo, come here. Your Abulea is here. She wants to talk to you and Gwen." Rio said.

"Okay, Mami, we'll be out soon," Miles said, going up to the roof.

"My Abulea wants to talk to us," Miles said.

"Miles, I don't want to hurt you again....." Gwen said.

"We can see each other anytime. I know you won't hurt me, Gwen." Miles said as Peter came up.

"Come visit anytime. I'll introduce you guys to MJ." Peter said, taking Mayday and opening a portal to his universe and going through.

Miles and Gwen went inside and walked into the living room. "Ah, Miles," Gloria said, hugging Miles.

"I just saw you an hour ago, Abuela," Miles said, hugging his Abuela.

"Now, I don't want you getting hurt running around as Spider-Man," Gloria said.

"You told her?! Mami, why did you tell her?!" Miles asked, freaking out.

"Miles, calm down. Your family cares about you and wants what's best." Gwen said.

"No puedo mentirle a mi madre, Miles," Rio said in Spanish.

"Esta bien mami. I get it. I just wish you had told me first." Miles said.

"I'm really sorry. Maybe if I weren't so afraid of losing everything, I would have told Miles sooner." Gwen said.

"You never actually told me about what happened with your dad?" Miles said.

"When I first met Miguel and Jess, we were fighting the vulture from the Renaissance, and I ran out of webs. My dad found me as Spider-Woman, and that's when I told him, and he started stating my rights. I didn't know how to fix my relationship with him at that point. I just couldn't think of a way out, then Miguel gave me a watch, and I went with them, and you know the rest." Gwen said, looking down.

"Yeah, but I don't know why you're still blaming yourself," Miles said.

"Because whether you admit it or not, I broke your trust, Miles, and I don't want to hurt you again. I know I broke your heart when I didn't tell you, but I thought I was protecting you. But it might have been better if I had stayed away. At least then I wouldn't have hurt you and broken your trust and heart....." Gwen said as Miles hugged her.

"I forgive you, Gwen, and you didn't break my heart," Miles said.
