"I don't fault you for what you did to Ezekiel." I tell Simone's dad. I was in the same position. Hell, I was close to finishing the job before him.
He was dressed in an orange jumpsuit and his beard was longer with more grey hairs. His head was now bald as well.
Mr. O'Reilly shook his head, speaking lowly. "It's certain shit I can and can't protect my daughters from. I feel like abusive men is something I can protect them from. A piece of shit like Ezekiel doesn't even deserve to walk around after what he did to my daughter. Who knows who else he's abused."
I nodded my head, understanding where he was coming from.
"What brings you here though? We didn't really get off on the best start so I'm surprised to see you here."
I scratch my beard. I was nervous as hell but this was something I had been thinking about doing for a while. Simone's the one and we've been together for almost two years now.
"Yeah, I know and that's why I'm even nervous to ask this." I reached in my pocket and pulled the little velvet box out.
if he says no im still doing it tho. he can't stop shit from that 4 by 6 cell
I had to argue with the guards for them to even let me bring this in here.
"Man, this is beautiful." It looked like he was about to cry.
I never seen a grown man cry over a ring before but hey. First time for everything.
"Had to work extra hard for that one. White gold band and—"
"Cushion-cut and about an 8 carat diamond? Right?" he looked up from analyzing the ring with a proud smile on his face.
I gave him an amused look. "Yup."
"You did good, son. I spent my time buying my wife lots of diamonds over the years. Happy wife, happy life." He chuckled and patted my back.
"Thanks. You already know what I want to ask but I'm going to say it anyways. Your daughter is the light of my life and if it's anything that these two years taught me is that I gotta hold on to the ones I love most and make every moment worth while. I want to have your daughters hand in marriage. She's the love of my life and I mean it when I say I want my family to be with her. I want her to be my home. My everything."
"This is all I want for my daughters." It looked as if he was about to tear up. "To find true love. Thank you for taking care of my youngest while I'm in here. Im glad she has someone other than her siblings and mother looking out for her. You find someone you love, go after it. Take care of my baby girl."
"Thank you. I wanted to do this the right way." I stand up from my seat and he stands up as well so we could dap each other up.
I know that asking for her hand in marriage will be a big thing for Simone. I wanted to make sure I did everything the right way.
