i feel my hair pull away from my scalp, a stinging pain. i jolt my hand up in reflex, i hear a small voice from behind me. "i'm sorry, honey!! i immediately stop my hand and open my eyes. the sun blinds my vision as it peers through the curtains of cecilia and i's bedroom window.
i feel cecilia's warmth on my body, we are wrapped in fresh blankets. i understand the familiar feeling and rush of my lover braiding my hair, she always loved it. i liked braiding hair, sure. i would never wear it anywhere, my girlfriend thinks otherwise. she wears two long braids in her brunette hair for every occasion, this leaves her hair extremely wavy. contrast to my opinion of myself in braids, i love her hair. i mean i love everything about her though.
sometimes i wonder how she can braid all of her long hair, if she gets tired of it. but then she goes and braids MY hair all on her own. my hair is fairly long, i've tried growing it longer but it always stops mid back. cecilia's hair goes down to her hips, it wasn't like that forever though. she used to have a buzz cut, when we first met.
"how many times are you going to wake me up like this?" i groan. i act as if i don't like when she messes with my hair, but it's all i look forward to. i can feel her smile. i'm not sure how, even with my back turned to her. i guess she just radiates this love and comfort when she smiles, it's easy to become addicted to.
"your hair is just so much softer than mine, i love it so much." she continues to mess with my hair. i want to turn around and give her a morning kiss, but i wouldn't want to interrupt her work.
"mm, sure." i breathe out, feeling my body sink deeper in our mattress. she pulls away from my hair for a few seconds, shifting her weight to the other side of the bed. when she comes closer again i hear a rubber band slap, and her gentle hands let go of my hair.
"ta-da!!" cecilia celebrates, allowing me to turn around and meet my eyesight to hers. her freckles shimmer in the sun, strands of hair caught in her long dark eyelashes.
"you're pretty today, huh?" i smile. cecilia always looked majestic in our mornings together, making me smile naturally. she didn't need makeup to make her pretty like i did and i admired that deeply. she blushes at my words, i raise a hand up to push a single strand of long hair out of her eyes.
as my fingers make contact with her warm skin, my chest fills with heat. cecilia closes her eyes, they sparkle when they open. i wrap my arms around her body, pulling her into my embrace.
my heart flutters as i feel cecilia hum against my skin, "you smell so good." i laugh, brushing my hands through her hair. "i'm so tired," she groans.
i pull away from her, making eye contact again. "didn't you get sleep?" my sense of worry must've shown through my voice because cecilia immediately raises her mood.
"no! no! i'm just.. tired from last night." i nod and leave a kiss on her forehead. cecilia works night shifts at a radio shack, she always comes home so exhausted. i get home hours before her, so i'm usually in charge of dinner and things of that nature.
"i love you." i whisper, enjoying every moment of our lives. i'm never sure when it could end.
