They followed Dustin to the woods, it is now nighttime. The compass started moving. "Something's happening."
"Dustin? Can you slow down? Dustin?"
" I think we're getting close."
He began to run again, Eddie grabbed his shirt preventing him from falling into the lake, Dustin's eyes widen. "Watch your step, big guy"
Steve let out a groan
"Oh, man. You gotta be shitting me"
Eddie sighed in response
"Yeah, I thought these woods were familiar."
"Lover's Lake." Robin said.
"This is confounding."
"There's a gate in Lover's Lake?" Max asked.
Nancy turns to the group
"Whenever the Demogorgon attacked, it always left an opening. Maybe Vecna's the same way."
"Yeah, only one way to find out."
Eddie uncovered the boat and tried to keep it steady.
"Easy. I said easy, man."
"Sorry, dude."
Steve lent a hand but Robin put her hand on his head. "Here you go, yeah I'm going to do that."
Madison tossed her bag to Max.
"Wait, are you sure this is a good idea?" Max looks at her, worry in her eyes. She knows
" I will do whatever it takes to get that bastard out of your head. I don't want to deal with the Upside Down anymore. I want to end this"
Madison held onto Steve's hand and hoped onto the boat. He just stared at her. Nancy went in next and then Eddie. He pushed Dustin back.
"Hey, hey, hey, you trying to sink us? This thing holds four people tops."
"It's better this way, okay? You guys stay here with Max, Keep an eye out for trouble." Nancy tried to explain.
"You keep an eye out. It's my goddamn theory."
"You heard Nance." Robin warned.
"Who put her in charge?"
"I did."
"Compass."
Dustin threw it at Madison, she passed it to Nancy.Steve enters the boat and pushes it, " Hey, there you go."
"You said four."
"Sorry." Steve mouthed.
"Bedtime at nine, kiddos. Miss you already!"
Robin waved at him, Dustin flipped them off as the boat went farther. The next few seconds are filled with silence as they follow the compass hoping to find a gate. The compass started getting haywire "Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, slow down. Slow down, guys."
"Whoa."
Robin grabbed the walkie-talkie.
"Guys, what's going on? Come on, talk to me. What's going on?"
"Uh, Dustin, your compass has gone from wonky to wonky with a capital "aah!"
Steve started to take off his shoes and socks. Madison raised an eyebrow. "Steve, what are you doing?"
"Somebody's got to go down and check this out. Unless one of you four can top being a Hawkins High swim co-captain and a certified lifeguard for three years, then it's got to be me.No complaints, all right? "
"Hey, I'm not complaining. I do not want to go down there." Eddie muttered.
Steve threw his sweater at her. Madison started staring at his chest, her eyes going up and down. Robin looked at her, smirking.

"Ugh, When did Steve get so hairy"
Dustin turned to Lucas, agreeing. "Right, I keep telling him he needs to tame that jungle but apparently your sister digs it."
" Let me see"
Max took the binoculars from Lucas's hand and stood there staring, for a bit too long. The two boys look at each other confused.

Eddie grabbed a plastic bag and wrapped it around a flashlight." Hey, good luck."
Steve took the flashlight from his hands. "Thanks."
He pulls out a cigarette. Robin swats her hand like she saw a mosquito. "Gross"
"Steve? Be careful." Madison said softly.
The two made eye contact for a few seconds. Then he dove down. They waited patiently for him to come back up.
"Where we at, Wheeler" Robin asked worried.
"Closing in on a minute."
Suddenly Steve came back up, startling everyone.
"Oh, Christ!" Eddie panicked.
"I found it."
"You found it?" Nancy asked hopefully.
Steve tried to catch his breath."I found it. Yeah. I found it."
Robin grabbed her walkie.
"Dustin, you are a goddamn Einstein. Steve found the gate."
There is static coming from the walkie.
"It's pretty wild. It's more a snack-size gate than the mama gate, but still, it's pretty damn big." Steve explained.
Something grabbed him, but he went back up. The mysterious force pulled him again but this time it succeeded. The four yelled out his name
"What the hell was that man?"
"Maddie, what happened?" Robin questioned.
She stared at the water and stood up on the boat. Steve was in danger. She suddenly regretted lying to him about being cursed. One things for sure, she wasn't going to let him die without saying I love you. Eddie looked at her like she was crazy. "Wait, wait, wait. You're not going in there, are you?"
"Just wait here."
The three yelled out her name. Without even wasting a single second, she jumped off the boat. It got darker and deeper until a red gate glowed underwater. The remaining three eventually jumped off the boat.
