"Hey, Alex. I'm gonna come home late for later, I still have to meet up with Alyssa. Cook yourself something while I'm out."

"Uh, sure. Goodluck." And Alex hung up the phone.

Alex sighed, put down his phone and quickly got to bed. It was already 8:00 o' Clock in the evening and he was starving. Matt and he knew that that set of skill wasn't really in his forte, and usually Matt left something in the fridge for the both of them to eat. Although Matt said nothing about the 'meet-up' between Alyssa was a date, he knew it was a date. He understood but was kind of disappointed, or maybe he was just used to Matt cooking for him all the time. Matt's dishes were to die for (even if they were just fried eggs) and he loved eating with Matt as much as he loved eating his food.

The roommates lived like a married couple helping each other keeping their dorm squeaky clean and orderly, but of course as much as Alex wanted to, he knew they weren't for each other. Alex had feelings for his best friend ever since they graduated elementary and high school together, but it was only then it sank to him that there will never be a 'them'.

Alex would've gladly settled for being Matt's friend. He knew that they would eventually split and go their own ways anyways. He knew Matt would eventually find himself a girl, start a family, and live the life he was supposed to. That was his fate afterall.

Alex knew that he himself was nothing but a filler in the world. He guessed that the Gods must've made people like him because they wanted to control the rapidly growing population of the world. Because a gay boy like him would definitely not be able to reproduce.

Or maybe this was their way of punishing him for being a bad person in his previous life.

Alex slowly closed his eyes, even though he knew he couldn't sleep without Matt lying down on his bed. These days seemed too different from before since the day Matt had been going out with Alyssa. He remembered how noisy Matt was before sleeping, munching Doritos while playing his favorite tunes no one understands. He was in fact too noisy as a roommate, but now everything seemed too quiet.

Maybe he just loved Matt's presence.

Everything was well until Alex woke up again in the middle of night.

It was useless.

He couldn't push himself to sleep no matter how hard he tried. Alex knew something was missing, and he didn't know what it was. Maybe he just rejects the real fact that someone was keeping him up, and tried to look for another reason of the source of his insomnia.

Maybe it was the coffee Matt gave him this morning.

Maybe because the song, "Uptown Funk" kept playing again and again in his head.

Maybe because- no use.

He stood up, rubbed his eyes and wore his slippers. He took a glance over Matt's bed, and looked at the clock. Matt wasn't the type to go home late, unless if he was studying or doing late-night projects. Something was off. Silent types weren't supposed to go home so late.
