'Come on Luc! You need something hot! Something they'll remember!' Marie encouraged, both her and Audery were situated outside Lucy's bedroom door. As Lucy tried on different outfits, the two girls would judge them.
Audrey was ready to go, ecstatic at the invitation to a footballer party. She had straightened her hair and was wearing a black strapless, bodycon mini dress with a cropped denim jacket. Audrey and Marie had packed for parties, Lucy had not. The whole point of her style was to blend in, not stand out.
Lucy opened the door, she was wearing high-waisted blue jeans and a white button up. 'Luc girl that's the same outfit as before!' Audrey pinched the bridge of her nose at her stubbornness,
'Yes, but I undid another button!' Lucy replied,
'Oh yeah real scandalous Luc' Marie spoke sarcastically. 'Okay, I'm going to pick out a few of my dresses for you to try on, Audrey you start on her make up. If you guys want to be there on time you have to get going soon.' Marie was staying home, and Lucy envied her as she walked away, pink pyjama bottoms swishing at her ankles. Audrey took Lucy's hand and dragged her in front of Audrey's vanity, which was covered in bottles, powders and palettes. Lucy plopped down on the chair as Audrey began mixing foundation shades on the back of her hand. She took some off her winter shade and her summer shade and started to mix equal parts to get Lucy's colour. Just as she was blending it across Lucy's face, Marie bounced in, 4 dresses in tow.
'Ok Lucy, these are a little out of your comfort zone, but your gonna look fit as. So just trust me for one ok?' Lucy responded with a thumbs up, not wanting to mess with Audrey's flow. Marie put the dresses in Lucy's room and started digging through her closet to look for matching shoes, which she labelled with sticky notes, so Lucy knew which ones went with each dress. Marie looked at her phone, they needed to leave in an hour if they wanted to get to Colin's on time. She popped her head into Audrey's room, 'Hey did you girls want anything to eat before you left?'
'I'll have some toast and jam if you're up to making some?' Audrey replied with a smile,
'I'm good I think, thanks' Lucy spoke, earning side eyes from her friends. 'What?' Audrey looked at her with concern,
'What have you eaten today?'
Lucy paused to think, but was all Marie needed to answer,
'Toast and jam for you too then'. She hummed as she waltzed into the kitchen.
'You want to tell me why the only thing you had today was coffee?' Audrey pressed with concern,
'I was just really busy today, didn't have time' Lucy shrugged. Audrey was putting the final touches on her make up, and as she looked in the mirror, her face glowed with bronzy and golden tones. Lucy smiled at Audrey, which did not comfort her.
'Go try on Marie's dresses,' she looked at her phone, 'Be quick about it though, only got half an hour' Lucy nodded and rushed into her room. Audrey made her way to the kitchen, where Marie was just finishing up the toast and Damian was on the couch, eating chips of some kind and watching TV.
'Hey babe, did you want to order a pizza or something, have a movie night?' He spoke
'That sounds quite good actually.' Marie replied with a smile.

Back in Lucy's room, she was running through Marie's dress options. It was like Goldilocks picking the right porridge. That ones too short, that ones two bright, and that ones too tight. That means the last one must be just right.
