Everyone sat huddled around the small, boxy TV with admiration."Once a year, this city becomes more than a city. These streams become more than streets..."
You lean closer to the TV, watching with baited breath and amazed eyes, all simultaneously waiting for the commentator to utter his baited words.
"This year, the winner will become..."
MK and Mei held in a squeal, both clutching onto each of your sides with excitement; and your eyes locked onto the screen.
"Immortal."
MK and Mei collectively gasp when a picture of a peach trophy was advertised for the presumed winner. "A peach of immortality!!!" MK squealed, shaking you frantically with fervor.
"Uh.. peach of what now?"
Pigsy said, his snout slightly crinkled with his expression. MK and Mei them went on about a tangent about Pigsy 'not knowing what the peaches of immortality were' and what not... not that you paid any mind to their ramblings as you grabbed the remote to rewind and search for something that caught your eye.Tang cleared his throat, placing both his hands on each of Mei's and MK's shoulders to hold them back like they were rabid dogs ready to lunge. "If you'll allow me," he said, removing his hands from their shoulders and positioning them behind his back.
"Legend says there is a sacred field of trees which grows in the heavenly realm, protected by the gods themselves. Every few thousand years, these trees bring forth Peaches of Immortality. Against the wishes of the Heavenly Host; the Monkey King took them all... making himself immortal," Tang explained with restricted detail than he's used to. Out of the corner of his eye he saw your serious expression as huh tried to look at the commercial frame by frame.
"Wait— I thought the Monkey King was already immortal?" Pigsy said skeptically; to which you subconsciously butted in - "he was. He learned the 72 transformations which granted him partial immortality. Then he took all the peaches, got drunk off heavenly wine; and then ate a whole bunch of pills of immortality." That was pretty much it summed up in the best way you remember... Tang hurriedly shushes you and continues. "Piggy, you're missing the point. Whoever wins this race will—"

"—Live forever!" Redson said boisterously; holding a flyer up for his parents to see. Only to be met without their gaze and unamused looks away from his own. "A-..Are you two even listening..?" His nose scrunched with his question, before his mom spoke as she swiped a few hairs back into place under her ear. "Hm.. something about.. peaches?" Princess Iron Fan placed her hands on her hips, tilting her head to look at her son with a hiked brow.
"Look, your schemes are quaint. But I never cared for stone fruit." The words of his own mother calling his thoroughly thought out plans to be 'quaint' was like a stab in the heart. No.. more like a coyote mauling his still palpitating heart after ripping him apart bit by bit to share with it's pack.
Okay... maybe that was a bit dramatic.. point is, it hurt like hell for him.
Redson felt that stingy feeling in his nose; that one when you're about to cry but you just have to hold it back so you don't embarrass yourself. "But— the peaches are powerful-" he tried to explain, choking back a crack in his voice and swallowing it down.
"Like the Weather Station was powerful?" Princess Iron Fan interrupted cruelly. "Why don't you just run along, hm? Cant you see Mommy and Daddy have business with an ancient power source?" She gestured back to the Bull Clones tearing the very crevice the Demon Bull King had created in his tantrum a few weeks ago... hushed whispers haunted the air like a mist. It made all their heads hurt... but they could never put it past themselves to say that.
