Chapter One
"Strangers in The Night"
A loud crash interrupted Adelina's peaceful sleep. She sat up in her bed quickly, looking around her dark room. The full moon lit her bedside window, which had been boarded up with wooden planks. She got up and grabbed her knife that sat on the bedside table. She cracked her door and put her ear up against it, listening through the rest of the apartment. It was quiet, so she opened up the door completely. Her apartment was empty, and her step-dads door was still closed. Another crash filled her ears and she looked down at the floor, realizing the crashes were coming from down bellow. Her breath hitched as she realized she wasn't safe anymore.
She grabbed her knife and opened her apartment door, ready to descend the stairs. The convenience store at the bottom had been trashed, looters stealing whatever they felt would be useful. Her and her step-dad had gotten all the good stuff when the outbreak started. Now, Adelina hoped that whoever was trashing the place now, wasn't dangerous. She waited from another crash, but it didn't come, so she entered the store.
It was almost pitch black dark, with the exception of the moon. It lit up one half of the isles, peaking between the entrance windows. Adelina listened closely, only hearing slight tapping. She stood shakily against one of the isles, waiting to pounce on whoever was tip-toeing through her store.
She heard the foot-steps get closer. They took one last step before stopping, causing Adelina's breath to hitch. Her knife was up in front of her face, and she slowly crept to the edge of the isle. When she turned, ready to launch her knife, there was nothing there. She breathed heavily and looked around, before turning . A large figure stood before her and she couldn't make out the face. Her knife was quickly knocked out of her hand and it flew across the room. The figure grabbed her mouth and spun her around. "Get off me!" She screamed.
Adelina threw her head back, hearing it smack against the persons chin. They stumbled backwards into the shelves and grunted loudly. "Dammit!" Adelina ran over to her knife with the knowledge that whoever this was, was a person, and a dangerous one at that.
She bent down and picked up her long bowie knife but was shoved to the ground. The figure stood over her and Adelina held tightly to her knife. She reached out and slashed at the persons leg. They howled above her and fell on top of Adelina. The figure placed a ruff hand on her mouth and held her arm down to the floor. "Shut up!"
Adelina could now make out this person slightly. It was a man, with short curly hair. His hot breath covered her face, causing her to snap out of her thoughts. With her free hand, she reached towards the bottom isle and grabbed a can. She smashed it against the mans head and he rolled off of her. She stood up, ready to run to the other side of the store but her leg was grabbed. Her forehead smacked against the edge of a rusty shelve. She felt blood trickle down her head and onto her nose. She turned back up and the man towered over her again. Her knife was knocked out of her hand and sat on the other side of the store. "Get away from me fotze!"
