Episode 9: Getting Back To Champion

Lapis awoke to bright red eyes glaring down at her. She screamed and flailed her arms. Wanyamon, who had been sleeping next to her awoke with a fright.

"Ma'am! Are you alright?!" He asked, startled. He looked around for any signs of attack, but couldn't discover anything. What had bothered his partner so bad?

Lapis calmed her erratic breathing down. She sighed and shook her head. "I'm alright. It must have been a nightmare." Yet, she couldn't shake the thought of those glowing, evil eyes staring at her in her sleep. Had they been a figment of her imagination?

Lapis got up and showered. She gave Wanyamon a much needed, but unwanted, bath after she had changed her clothes.

She was determined to find her friends today, even if she had to go alone. Her crest was the Crest of Miracles, which mean that she could miraculously find them and get them back. Or did it mean something completely different? She remembered Davis telling her about how he had used that very same Digiegg to help Veemon digivolve into Magnadramon to save a not only his friends, but a Digimon called Cherubimon.

She looked around while heading into the school's building late Saturday morning. She pulled out her Fusion Loader and was just about to enter it when-

"Lapis!" Someone shouted. She looked up to see Tai, Matt, Kari, and T.K. They had their partners with them, ready to go to the Digital World.

"Is it just us today?" Lapis asked. She had hoped to go it alone, but maybe having these four friends with her would prove far more helpful.

"I guess so." Matt said, looking around for any signs of the other Digidestined.

"We should go, we are burning daylight." Lapis said, turning and aiming her blue and red digivice at the Digigate. The portal sucked her and her friends up and whisked them away to the Digital World.

"What's our plan?" Kari asked. She glanced around, not finding any signs of life.

"We should work on getting our Digimon to Champion level. It worked for Greymon and ExVeemon. We need the rest of our Digimon to digivolve to Champion, too." T.K. suggested.

"Gaomon can digivolve to Champion. Gatomon and BlackGatomon are already Champion. For right now, that leaves Gabumon and Patamon." Lapis explained. She looked at the two Digimon were as far from alike as possible, despite being partnered with brothers.

Meanwhile, Devimon glared at the group from his lair. "Petty humans. You will not be able to defeat me if I send in some heavy artillery. BlackGarurumon, Piddomon, get them!"

A large black wolf with white stripes and purple claws howled as it charged in the direction the Digidestined were going. A large white Angel with a helmet, orange hair, and a magenta ribbon wrapped around it's body flew above the wolf, following it.

The Digidestined looked up at the sound of flapping wings. T.K. and Matt gasped, seeing the all too familiar, but always very different, Digimon.

"That's Garurumon, but he's black!" Matt said in shock.

"And that looks like Angemon!" T.K. added.

"That's BlackGarurumon and Piddomon!" Gatomon said, clenching her teeth and taking a step back.

"Howling Blaster!" BlackGarurumon shouted. A blast of blue fire shot from its mouth, hitting the kids straight on.

"Apollo Tornado!" Piddomon cried. A large tornado made of raging flames formed from it's golden staff and went whipping at the kids.

"We have to do something!" Kari cried, trying to get up, staring in horror at the oncoming vortex of fire.

Lapis's digivice glowed with the Crest of Miracles. Then, Matt and T.K.'s digivces glowed in response, flashing light at Gabumon and Patamon.

"I can feel this immense power!" Gabumon said in awe. "Gabumon digivolve to...." In his place stood a similar Digimon to BlackGarurumon, only it had white fur with blue stripes. "Garurumon!"

"My turn!" Patamon said in determination. "Patamon digivolve to...." In Patamon's place stood a tall, celestial being identical to Piddomon, only with blue ribbons instead of purple. "Angemon!"

"Ready, brother?" Garurumon grumbled to Angemon.

"Ready when you are." The Angel responded.

"Howling Blaster!"

"Hand of Fate, hyeeee!" Angemon cried. His fist glowed with a burst of orange light and shot out with a punch. The blue flames and orange light formed into a swirling mix that destroyed Piddomon's attack when they collided.

"We can't let them win, its Devimon's orders!" BlackGarurumon growled.

"Then let's amp this up." Piddomon said. He glowed with energy, and so did BlackGarurumon. That was when the kids noticed the black Fusion Loader in Piddomon's hand.

"Piddomon digivolve to...."

"BlackGarurumon digivolve to..."

The two Fusion Evolved together. In their place stood an Ultimate level Digimon. It was big and black, with large, red tipped ears sprouting from its head. Its arms were actually large cannons. "BlackRapidmon!"

"It's an Ultimate Level!" Tai gasped.

"You have to Fusion Evolve!" Lapis told Matt and T.K. urgently.

The two brothers looked at each other and nodded. Reaching out and grasping each other's hands, they concentrated on the bond between them and their Digimon. Their Fusion Loaders glowed again and Garurumon and Angemon began to digivolve.

"Garurumon digiolve to....."

"Angemon digiolve to....."

In their place stood a similar Digimon to BlackRapidmon. This Digimon was green and tan. "Rapidmon!"

"Rapid Fire!" Rapidmon cried. It shot rapid bullets from its hands at BlackRapidmon. BlackRapidmon was hit, and slid back.

"With hope and friendship, we can't lose!" T.K. cried.

"Family means everything!" Matt added, fists clenched.

"Tri Beam!" Rapidmon screamed. A large blast of energy shot out from it's entire body, hitting BlackRapidmon square on. BlackRapidmon screamed in pain as its data was disassembled into nothing but tiny little bits.

Rapidmon degenerated into Gabumon and Patamon. The two collapsed from having used so much energy, but were otherwise okay.

Kari glanced over at Matt and T.K., than Lapis. Could it be? Everytime the Digimon are in need of the power to digivolve, her Fusion Loader glows and helps them out. It happened with Agumon and Veemon, too. Could she be the key to helping out the Digital World?
