Technoblade was tired- it was a long day, and the voices were relentless. Putting his hoe away, he sighed- and instead of heading inside his house, he headed up the hill, ignoring the idle chatter that continued within his mind.
Reaching his desired location- a tree- he sat below it and admired the sunset.
Hearing a little rustle in the leaves above him, his ears flicked back at the sound. He looked up, but nothing was there.
"Mrow."
Technoblade looked up again, and this time, a pair of eyes, yellow as lamps, met his own red ones. It seems he wasn't the only one admiring the sunset.
Instantly, the voices picked up speed, saying things like "CAT," and "MEOW," among other things. He shut those out, focusing on the fluffball before him.
Unsure what to do, he patted the space next to him for the cat to come down and join him, but those eyes continued to look down like floodlights.
"Mrow," the cat meowed again.
Technoblade got up slowly, realising the cat might be scared to come down- stuck in the tree. He held his arm out to it, and the cat reached out with one of its paws, but then returned to its perch out of caution.
Without thinking, he grabbed a lower branch and swung his leg up to begin climbing the tree. A boyish action. He paused. He hasn't done something like this in long time- all for a cat? The voices began nipping at him again, but again he ignored them.
He huffed out. Maybe it was time he loosened up. Pulling himself up to the higher branch, he quietly sat down on the branch, letting his legs swing freely, and waited for the cat to approach him.
Sure enough, the black fluffy animal padded up softly and sat down next to the piglin.
The two stayed there for a minute, just quietly looking at each other, and soft purrs began to emit from the cat, gradually growing to sound like a motorcycle. Technoblade chuckled softly at that.
"MOTORCYLE CAT" a particularly loud voice screamed. The man winced at the noise, still ringing in his mind.
The cat stood up again, rubbing its face onto Techno's arm. It was rather loving, turning in slow circles and rubbing its cheeks on Technoblade's outstretched hand. The voices, or Chat, as Techno liked to call them, was going at a million miles per hour.
"We're farming awes chat," Technoblade chuckled lowly.
Slowly, one paw at a time, the cat found it's way onto Techno's lap. It looked up at him, eyes shining in all their lamp-like glory, then looked back down, before finally settling into a loaf, contentedly purring atop his lap. Chat was spamming screams now.
All the warmth, the love, the coziness from such a cute and fluffy animal, it was safe to say Techno's heart melted. It was such a pure soul, lit alive by the darkness of this world. Technoblade had seen a lot of that world, and found comfort in this small corner of floof.
Maybe the cat was a little lonely too.
Technoblade pondered whether or not he should take this cat back home or not, but in the back of his mind, he's already decided. Besides, who was he kidding, the cat already claimed him. He looked down, his red eyes meeting the lantern-yellows of the cat's. Black cats were considered bad luck, but in Techno's opinion, black cats were the best cats.
He scratched the floof behind the ears with his thumb and index finger, and the cat closed it's eyes slowly in response. Technoblade was pretty sure that meant something in cat language- he read about it somewhere, but he couldn't remember.
He would call the cat Mellohi.
A cat named Mellohi. Techno thought it was kinda funny, a little nod-off to the Disc War way back on the Dream SMP. Tommy's discs would get a second chance. Besides, it's a cute name for a cat.
He watched the last rays of sun trickle down and hit his face, listening to the motor-like purrs of Mellohi. A little lonely soul, come to comfort another, much bigger lonely individual. It wasn't human companionship, but maybe it was a bit better.
The sun, the cat, and the calm, contrasting with the blood, the death, and the wars.
In that moment, everything was finally quiet.
