marcella salazar never understood the concept of grudges.

all her life she was told that her, of all people, deserved to hold a grudge against someone. she never did and the thought of it never came close to her. every summer she had was spent in cousins with her grandparents, the conklins, and the fishers. every summer she had with the ones she loved, were to make up for the school years she had with her fathers presence hanging over her. the nights she spent holed up in her room, back against her door as her father tried opening it. the nights spent in her bathtub with her head submerged underwater wishing her mother was there to soothe the devil called dad. even with everything her dad had put her through, she never once held a grudge against him or anyone really. and when conrad brought up her home life in the rare arguments they had, she'd forgive him the next day. her heart shattering with a smile so bright that her mouth had no choice but to move on like nothing ever happened.

MARCELLA saide SALAZAR: was raised by her grandmother, constance, a strict but kind woman who never failed to make her granddaughter laugh and her grandfather, eugenio, a laid back but more reserved man. to constance and eugenio, whom had raised their granddaughter all her life, marcella was a sweet girl who took everything in with grace and could do no wrong in her life. for germán salazar, who was never home long enough to remember what his daughter looked like, marcella was a snobby little girl with the attitude of a demon. her birthdays were spent in silence, not once being celebrated. the sweet girl known to cousins had a summer birthday, but after years of spending it with her papá, she hated the day she was born. she hated july third. she loved love, she loved everything pink, she loved gold jewelry, designer brands. she loved being a girl, but her papá made her hate her femininity. maybe this summer her boys will make her proud of it again?
