The summer was quickly coming to an end.
Anthony sat at his desk in his office, staring at the pamphlet for the expensive, boarding, private, all boys school. He just called the school to arrange his teenaged son, Milo's, admission, but he still couldn't shake the feeling of unease that had settled in his gut.
He attended a private school already, but apparently it didn't stop the boy from causing trouble.
Milo was his only son, and he loved him deeply, despite his rebellious and troublemaking tendencies. The man couldn't help but feel like sending him away to a boarding school was an extreme decision. But something had to change, he couldn't keep bailing Milo out of trouble every other month.
Anthony had already tried an array of different intervention methods, but nothing seemed to work. His son's behavior seemed to grow worse by the day, and Anthony had become increasingly concerned about Milo's future. He had been considering the private school as a last resort, but there was still a nagging doubt in the back of his mind.
He couldn't continue to let his son's behaviour go unchecked, nothing seemed to work. Grounding, taking away his privileges, spankings, lecturing, nothing.
He picked up the pamphlet once again, reading through the details of the private school. The curriculum was rigorous, the facilities were state-of-the-art, and the discipline was strict, even containing corporal punishment.
Despite it all, Anthony knew it was the right choice for Milo, even if it meant sending him away from home. It seemed like the perfect place for his son to focus on his studies and put his troublesome behavior behind him.
Anthony knew that sending Milo away wouldn't be easy, but he also knew that it was the right choice. Milo needed structure, discipline, and a fresh start. Anthony wanted the best for his son, and he was willing to do whatever it took to give him a chance at a better future.
Doing that would mean that he would be away from home, away from his family, and away from everything he had ever known. Anthony wondered if it would do more harm than good, and if the separation from his home would damage his son's mental health.
He sighed deeply and ran a hand through his hair, leaning back on his chair. The decision has been made. He would miss the little brat, despite all the times that Milo said that he hated him, he had to punish him, pick him up from school or worry about where he was wandering.
He was the only thing that he had at the moment, surely living in the mansion alone with just maids will be lonely. Was it how Milo felt when Anthony was in his office for whole days? Maybe, but he couldn't think too much about it at that moment.
He slowly picked up his phone and clicked the first contact, typing a quick message to Milo. It read:
Come down to my office. Now.
Did it sound harsh? Yes. But it was just how Anthony was, his son was used to it by now.
He put the phone back down, this time rubbing his tired eyes with his hands.
He waited patiently for the teenager to arrive, it always took him a while when Anthony needed something.
Finally after good 10 minutes, Milo decided to show up.
He was wearing a loose-fitting jeans that were slightly worn, a graphic, oversized t-shirt that featured his favorite band, and a pair of colorful socks.
As for his light brown hair, it was in disarray, with unruly locks sticking out in different directions. His bangs, that were slightly too long and fell into his eyes, gave him a constantly disheveled appearance.
He looked rather bored and irritated, one of his hands was hidden in the pocket of his pants while the other one held his phone, the newest iPhone 14 pro (he surely didn't deserve it), which was an gift from Anthony. He wasn't looking up at his father, just scrolling through it, ignoring him and showing off his anger.
"Milo, I need to talk to you about something very important. Look at me." Anthony ordered, his voice firm.
Milo rolled his eyes, clearly not in the mood for another lecture that was seemingly coming. "What now, dad?" he asked, his tone dripping with sarcasm. He reluctantly put his phone in his pocket.
The man took a deep breath, trying to remain calm. "I've decided that I'm going to enroll you in a private, all boys, boarding school." he said, finally having the courage to do so.
It took his son a while to register what he said.
Then, Milo's eyes widened in shock. "What?! You can't do that! I have my friends here, I-I have a life!" he protested.
Anthony shook his head, not giving into Milo's outburst. "Your behavior has become increasingly unacceptable, Milo. You need discipline and structure in your life, which is something that this school can provide." he explained patiently.
Milo clenched his fists and crossed his arms over his chest, his anger boiling over. "This is ridiculous! You can't just ship me off to some fancy school just because you don't want to deal with me anymore!" he shouted.
Anthony sighed, this wasn't the first time that Milo accused him of something like that. "Milo, you know that I love you. This isn't about me. This is about you, your future. You need to start taking responsibility for your actions and start thinking about your goals in life." he said.
Milo glared at him, knowing that he had no say in the matter. He opened his mouth a few times before closing it for good and storming off to his room, slamming the door behind himself.
The man was sure that he saw tears in his sons golden-brown eyes.
As Anthony sat alone in the silence, he knew that this was going to be a difficult transition for both of them. But he was determined to give Milo the guidance and structure he needed to succeed in life, even if it meant doing what he was about to do.
