Amaras pov
I looked at the ace of spades card in my hand and placed it down. I glared at the other player and he threw up his hands, "You win, Amara. Good game." Said my brother. He ran a hand through his dirty blonde hair with a smirk. "Good game, Gavin." I replied. I cracked my knuckles with a sigh and put my hands behind my head. I smirked and as I heard approaching footsteps, I looked over. It was my father. He wore a gray suit with a red tie and sat beside me, fingers interlocked. "Amara, I have a job for you and you alone." Ah, yes, my Job. I work for the Mafia, the only problem is I have no choice, because my father's my Boss and I don't necessarily mind too much because I'd do anything for my family. Anyhow, I like the adventure, the "risking your life" way of living it was fun, even though I had to do all my dad's dirty work. Cough cough- killing. And I work wonderfully with a weapon in my hands.
My green eyes peirced his "what do you need?" I asked. "I need you to get close to the prince. Get close and execute the king." I inhaled deeply and nodded "that's something I can do." I never doubted my abilities and I Never asked my dad for a reasonable explanation, because he always- ALWAYS had a good one.My dad told me the plan, he handed me a box with and outfit inside and I made my way through the dim-lit halls to my bedroom. I set the box on my bed and lifted the top of and set it aside. As I pushed aside packing paper I saw a black ball gown with a glittery top peice, placed underneath the dress were shiny black flats with straps.
Once I finished getting dressed I spun in front of my mirror and Gavin leaned against the doorframe. "You look like a Princess." He said. "That's exactly the plan" I said mischievously, pulling my hair into a high ponytail.I stepped out of the shiny black limo and walked into the castle. I lined up with five other women and the prince was gonna pick to be his future queen. Music filled the room as the prince Started walking down a flight of stairs directly in front of us. I looked at him I'm awe, a strand of his hair swooped over his forehead, and he ran a hand through his hair, moving it back. His shoulders were broad and his eyes were brown and something in my gut almost felt bad for having to kill him. When it came my time to dance with him, I hesitantly walked over to him, he kneeled and kissed my hand like he did every girl before me. I put my arms around his neck and we swayed on the dance floor.
Reed's pov
I had just danced with five women, and they were all wonderful people but I didn't feel a connection with any of them. I was starting to worry that I wasn't going to have anybody to pick, until I saw her. She had bright blonde hair, her eyes were a beautiful periwinkle color and her smile curved perfectly. I knelt on the ballroom floor and placed my hand beneath hers, placing my lips on her soft hand. Once I stood up, She placed her hands around my shoulders and avoided eye contact, but I broke the silence.
"What's your name?" Her eyes darted at mine like she wasn't expecting me to speak. "Im Amara, you?" I thought for a second, I never usually tell anyone my name unless they're close to me, but before my mind caught up to my mouth, "Reed" I said, admiring her beauty. She removed a hand from my neck and moved a strand of hair from her face. "Reed" she repeated, then the music stopped, k must've looked miserable because she shot me a reassuring smile and detached from me. "I hope you choose me." She whispered, leaning into my ear and walked away. My cheeks felt hot, but I smiled with a wave.
I walked back up the stairwell and met back with my parents. I sat in a velvet chair next to them. I had Amara in my view, she stared back with a smile. My father turned towards me, "So? thoughts?"
"Number six" I say without hesitation, looking at him. I wanted to know her deeply. "Her name is Amara, and she's the only one I felt a connection with." My mother nodded with a sweet smile, "Then Amara it is." The time for discussion ended and a guard asked who the chosen candidate was, "six" I say, she nodded and headed down the flight of stairs. She grabbed Amaras hand and led her to the open seat next to me, I smiled at her happily, the butterflies in my stomach fluttered. She curtsied at my parents and fell into her chair so gracefully, the way her hair bounced and landed perfectly on her shoulders left me in awe. I couldn't contain my excitement for the future moments with her to come.
Amara and I were allowed into the party with the rest of the guests. I reached for her hand and she took it. She looked as though she had something on her mind so I took her to the balcony. The balcony overlooked the city lights and all the passing cars, the stars and the moon were bright and in perfect view. People say nothing is perfect, but to me- this moment was. She looked around, it seemed to clear her mind, I looked her up and down with a smirk. She put her arms on the rail and rested her head on her arms, I made my way beside her, my hands gripping the rail. For some reason being with her felt much more like a fantasy than being royalty. I looked over at her, her blue eyes glistened in all the lights. “Something on your mind?” I asked softly. She nodded but didn't say anything else, she just admired the view.
