“<Can you believe how the bitch couldn’t even make out with me after I paid the bill? Next time, she’s walking home.>” Said the shaved-head man as he and his colleagues obnoxiously laughed and walked out of the mess hall.

“...<If you had a bit more respect, your dates wouldn’t run away from you, Igor.>”

The man halted and slowly turned to the woman who just spoke. She was sitting alone in the corner of the mess hall that was next to the entrance he was heading to. He smiled and marched towards the table.

“...<Ah…Sofia. You’re so quiet all the time, I forgot you even exist.>”

His friends snickered at his immature remarks as the blonde woman scoffed and rolled her eyes. As she was about to continue her meal, her plate was smacked off the table. Sofia threatened to stab a fork into the man’s hand but with all the strikes she had this month she didn’t want to risk it.

“<Quiet all of a sudden? It’s women like you who have no respect for themselves. You shouldn’t even be on the frontlines, go work in kitchen duty or somewhere where your period blood won’t leak all over the battlefield-”

A swift uppercut connected to the man’s chin, interrupting him from finishing his insult. He almost fell back from the force if it wasn’t for his friends catching him in time. After processing the punches, he death glared at the blonde woman with a slight smirk on her face.

His arm swung back but before he could hit her at full force, a whistle screeched into the ears of everyone in the mess hall. All heads turned to the high-pitched source, a woman was standing stiffly in the doorway as she scanned the room like a camera.

“<Fuck, it’s the lieutenant.>”

“<She looks like she’s about to bite someone’s head off.>”

The wave of whispers filled the room until the superior finally spoke as she walked up to the conflicting situation.

“<Would any of you care to explain the reason for a fight?>”

“...<Ask that bitch… she threw the first punch.>” The shaved-haired man suggested as he held his bruised jawline.

The Lt. stood in front of Sofia, who was a few inches taller than her. Eyed her up and down until finally taking her to her office

"<You committed multiple offenses recently, Sofia. Do I need to assign you to laundry duty for a month again?>"

"<If you do, you prove that bastard's point. Let's be real here, I do more heavy lifting than him and all his lackeys combined. You know that, Lt.>"

The superior signed as she continued on her paperwork.

"<Ms. Volkova, while that statement is true, you tend to be aggressive in small conflicts. Don't worry about the stupid things boys say and focus on your goals. You are dismissed, I'll excuse this incident but this is the last time. Now, prepared for next week's mission.>"

Walking to her room, Sofia felt like there were eyes upon her. She couldn't tell whether it was with ill intent but if someone was out to get her they would have done it by now while she was isolated. Her day was already annoying enough so she wasn't in a fit mood. She decided to sleep away her frustration for the night.

Few days pass to where an important mission takes place in the evening. The objective was simple: breach a military base in Romania, gather back the stolen intel and kill all witnesses. Cargo and supplies were packed and every one was ready to go on board. Sofia made her way to where the departing area was, aboard the aircraft.

Throughout the flight, she felt that familiar stare lingering. Once the crew made it to their destination, Sofia stayed behind, waiting for all the passengers to step off, pulling one of them back and pinned them on the seat. Some comrades wanted to intervene but knowing about Sofia’s reputation, they decided to mind their business.

“<Why are you stalking me?>” She asked ”<I know it was you who was watching me last night.>”

The man went silent, not in a way that he didn’t know what to say but in a way that he didn’t want to reveal at this moment. He just motioned Sofia to follow him to a private area, with her complying but also spewing threats in case he tries something.

When the coast was clear, the mystery man finally spoke and introduced himself.

“<My name is Felix, I know you don’t know me but I was assigned to keep my eyes on you just to make sure you don’t go too far. No hard feelings, right?”

“<Great, Volkova assigned me a babysitter…I assumed you didn’t have much of a choice so i’ll let this slide, just stay out of my way.>”

And with that Sofia was about to leave until Felix grabbed her hand again. Before she can say or do anything, the man slips a small piece of paper in her pocket.

“<Don’t read it until you’re alone, I trust you know what to make of it.>” Felix whispered before walking away, leaving Sofia rightfully confused.

2 hours in the mission was starting off good. The Military base was cleared out from most of the rooms, it looked like the only thing left to do was to retrieve the stolen info.

In the database center, Sofia inserts the files to the flash drive. However the files were encrypted with a code. She signed in frustration trying to hack in then and heard footsteps behind her, forcing her to turn around to lay eyes on the same idiot who had annoyed her before in the mess hall a few days ago.

Igor,,, smiling stupidly as he gestured Sofia to move aside with his rifle close to her face.

“<So, I suppose you were paid gracefully by someone to be this pathetic?>”

The confident man ignored Sofia as he walked past her to take the drive out of the port and crash on it under the sole of his shoe.

“<You know, no one has ever liked you. so if you died on the mission they wouldn’t really care much to investigate…>”

Sofia felt like a vain was about to burst as Igor spoke, she was lucky she brought a backup drive but she needed to get past the idiot somehow.

“<I could say the same for you, but instead of talking big are you really going to live up to your word and pull the trigger?>”

“<Don't. Test. me….that mouth of yours will get you killed one day, Sofia and i'm hoping this is the day.>

Stepping closer in a threatening manner, Igor continued to taunt the blonde woman. That is until a ringing alarm diffuses the tension. The two only glared at each other but subconsciously agreed that they needed to leave the base, but not before Sofia copied the files to the backup drive. Weeks passed by since the mission, Igor went on under the radar and unexpectedly Sofia didn’t report the betrayal he attempted in the control center. She had bigger fish to fry and knew Igor wouldn’t get far anyways. The only person she did tell was Felix, who she’s been bonding with for a while. She could call him a colleague. Friend? The titles stopped holding values to her.

What she also discovered was that before she turned in the backup drive to her superiors, she transferred the flies to her tablet and surfed through them once she was finally alone.

Secluded trading locations.

Connections with Mobs.

Platinum cards under fake names.

It was like hitting a gold mine. Oh, the possibilities of how to benefit from this. Maybe Sofia doesn't have to play the long game anymore, maybe she can raise her own team or organization from the ground…

Maybe she can make her grandmother proud…
