At this point, I had gotten used to this sight. A sight I had grown to see every sunday. From the cement pavement littered by my past and present footprints, to the quiet, almost rural, surroundings.

The sound of vehicles casually driving past and the sound of occasional chirping from the birds eased my nerves. Looking down, I watch as the diverse-colored kois easily glided through the waters of the clean street canal, matching the pace of my strides-it almost seemed as though they were taking the walk with me.

Continuing, I catch sight of the same tree I always passed by, the same flowers, the same scenery, the same houses that I could probably count using my ten fingers.

It was all too familiar; a feeling that I didn't even know was a good thing or not.

Although, what wasn't familiar was an unfamiliar figure crouched down, looking down onto their hands.

He wore a cap that covered his face, and it seemed to me that he was out on a jog of some sort; his athletic outfit giving it away. I don't blame him though, this area is perfect for that activity.

The ambience was perfect. It was slow and refreshing, like a breath of fresh air. Giving anyone the perfect chance to take a break from the busy and fast paced city life.

Nearing his crouched figure, I was about to continue walking and mind my own business when I noticed the scars that graciously decorated his arms. Ouch. They look fresh.

Concerned for his well-being, I stop right in front of him before clearing my throat, the act causing him to slightly look up-though still not enough for me to see his face as a whole.

"Sorry, I don't mean to bother, but uhh.. are you alright..? I couldn't help but notice the scars..." I awkwardly stand there as I scratch the back of my neck, not really knowing how to approach the situation at hand.

"Huh? Oh, this?" he questioned, reaching his hands out for emphasis before turning them over to give a whole 360 view of his arms; successfully showing me the thin red streaks, all slit in no particular direction.

"Haha! It's all good!" The stranger's cheery voice reassured before retracting his arms and sending me a thumbs up.

"Are you sure?" I ask one more time for safe measure, still unsure if I should leave him to his own devices.

"Mhm!"

Since there was no need to press on, I hesitantly say, "Well.. If you say so... But," I start, "We need to wash those, they could get infected."

I watch as the stranger's mouth slightly parted open to what I assume was him considering my words before he replaced it with a considerate smile, "Oh yeah, sure. I'm pretty sure there's a water fountain nearby."
