Ivan's POV
Silence reigned over us. The moment Eunica closed that door, is the moment my world stopped. Her last words made me weak on my knees. I can't believe she would say that. Call off the wedding?! Why?! Ah, because I am such a jerk! Not thinking what would be the consequences and being too confident that if she finds this out, it would be the same with us. She would be mad but it's not on the extent that she will cancel the wedding.
Maybe I have underestimated her. I forgot that she's not the Eunica that I have known before.
"I'm sorry."
I was back in my senses when I've heard Ethan's voice. I can't see what he is thinking but I can feel that he meant what he just said.
Ethan inhaled deeply and brushed his hair with his hand. He took his glass of brandy and drinks it in one gulped. I don't know what to say. But I was surprised with what he just said.
I smiled wryly. "It's done. Your sister already knew about it. That's all you've wanted me to do, right?"
Umiwas ito ng tingin. "Believe me or not, I was not expecting this also. I was kinda expecting that you two would have serious talk about this someday."
"Well, obviously it didn't. Are you happy now?" I said bitterly.
I saw him smirked. What an ass. "Did you know that this is the first fight that we ever had? For all the years we've known each other, not a single day that we would be throwing words on any of us. I love my sister, she's been away from us for many years that's why I make sure to keep her protected. "
I remained silent.
"So, I can't say that I am happy or satisfied. Because let's face it, the moment we made this deal, is the moment we both betrayed her. " Ethan said while looking directly on me eyes. I can see that he is also hurting.
Nanghihinang napasandal ako sa isang upuan. Napahilamos ako sa mukha. This is so stupid! How can I think of something like this?!
"I don't know what to do, Ethan." I said desperately.
Ethan looked down and inhaled deeply. "I know my sister. This too shall pass between us. But between the two of you? I've got to be frank, it wouldn't be easy, Ivan. You've hurt her once, I supposed you know what will happened this second time."
Wala sa sarili na kinuwelyuhan ko ito. Halata naman nagulat ito ngunit hindi ito napatinag.
"This is all your fault! If you would just simply accept my proposal before without this stupid deal, hindi mangyayari ito! I would still have her in my arms and we would still be both facing the altar."
He looked straight in my eyes. With those eyes, I can see Eunica. I want to stay calm but he's pushing my buttons too hard.
"You really think I'd giveaway like that? Do I still have to remind you why in a thousand proposal you've given us before, not a single one was accepted?"
Bigla ay natauhan ako. I slowly put my hand down and realized what he just said. He has a point. I did send them my offer multiple times but none of them was accepted.
"I-I'm sorry. " I said weakly.
I saw him fixed his shirt. He walks towards me and placed one hand on my shoulder.
"Like I said, I've known you Ivan. You've made your way here with my sister. I trust that you will still overcome this. Erin truly loves you, I can see it within her. She may not tell me before but I can feel it. I hate to admit it, but you're the only one that can heal her. She may have changed but her heart still beats for you. That's my reason I've come up with this deal"
