IT'S BEEN SIX MONTHS since i'd last spoken to matt, i wasn't reminded about that until my car broke down in the middle of the road.

i huffed, kicking my piece of shit car like that'd make anything better. i just looked stupid by the side of the road, having a breakdown.

it wasn't until i saw a minivan stop behind my car to help. i had a weird sense of nostalgia as i watched the car pull up, but i ignored it.

it was a warm sunny afternoon and i should be home right now to see my baby cousin on her birthday--but my car is an old piece of junk and decided to break on me on a busy highway.

a boy around my age slammed the car door shut, he was wearing a t-shirt that said ransom on it and matching sweats to pair with it. he was looking down so i didn't see his face, i had never felt so relieved in my life. that was until he looked me in my eyes.

it was matt, he stopped to look at me with sad eyes. i could feel my heart break from remembrance of the morning that i ruined everything. matt walked closer to me, his face dropping even more when he was right.

"devyn?" his voice trembled, i nodded, a smile forming on my lips, even though it wasn't genuine at all.

"matt." i say back to him, he seems to regret his decision on helping who he thought was a random stranger on the highway.

"so, your car broke down?" he questions, even though it was quite obvious.

"mhm," i hummed, "i really have to be getting back, can you please call a company that could help me? i left my phone back at my place."

matt only nodded, my heart sinking at the fact he wasn't saying much to me. i deserve it, i was such a bitch to him. he should hate me, i'm glad he does.
