                 Tune for the chapter

'Bonjr thomas reid versor - i want you to help me live'

Anastasia Marie Gilmore is far from quiet. She's outgoing, blunt, motivated, impulsive, and some would say she speaks to much what's on her mind. She's never bothered by judgment, or what others may think of her. This is simply her life, and she feels as if she's allowed to live it how she would like.

Anastasia grew up in the loud, crowded city that was New York with her two parents and adopted sister, Willow Annette Gilmore. Life for the teenage girls were chaotic, and busy, never truly getting time to themselves. The only times they would be free of their hectic lifestyle was when they traveled to Washington State to visit their Uncle Charlie. Anastasia would find herself wondering why her mother moved all the way to the east coast, leaving her older brother behind. Charlie seemed like a good man, quiet unlike her mother, but kind.

However, on one cold December night, Anastasia's life changed forever.

The night seemed normal; Anastasia was finishing up her essay while Willow was binging her favorite tv show with a bowl of popcorn in her lap. The girls shared a conversation here and there, but mostly kept to themselves. It was cold. Anastasia noticed the drop in temperature as she wrapped her blanket around her tightly. A freeze was going over New York City as snow began piling up by the second. Her parents had gone out for a fancy work dinner like they usually do on Friday nights, it was nothing out of the ordinary. However, the time began slipping away.

"Stas," Willow spoke out as she glanced at the clock on the coffee table besides her. She received a hum in response by her sister who was deep in her history book. "It's almost 1am, they're still not back."

Anastasia looked up from her studies and turned to face her sister. Her eyebrows furrowed, "oh, well it could be from the snow. They should be back soon."

She noticed the worried expression on Willow's face and decided to join her on the couch to help ease her nerves. Anastasia was concerned herself, though she didn't want to jump to any conclusions just yet. Another hour passed, the popcorn bowl emptied, and their show came to a stop. The girls worry only grew as the time reached 2:35 am. Before they could speak, a ring echoed throughout the apartment.

Anastasia stood from the couch and rushed over to the phone in hope to be a call from her mother. The caller id was unfamiliar to her, though she answered, nonetheless.

"Hello?" Willow's attention was grabbed by the uncertainty in Anastasia's voice.

"Is this Anastasia Gilmore?" A man's voice spoke sternly on the other end. Anastasia wondered if this could be a work friend of her parents.

She leaned against the counter, "It is. Whom am I speaking to?"

"Ma'am, this is Dr. Lincoln from Emergency Department at NYU Langone. We're calling regarding your parents Annette and Dean Gilmore, there's been an accident-"

Anastasia felt her mouth go dry as her breath got hitched in her throat. Her body went numb, as if a thousand needles were picking at her skin. All she could hear was the slamming of her heart in her chest, and the man's voice explaining in crucial detail of her parents' death. "-we did everything we could."

Her eyes filled with tears as she dropped to her knees, an agonizing cry filled the silence of the apartment. The phone slipped from her fingers; Anastasia's body shook from nausea taking over in her stomach, a thousand scenarios battled in her mind as she attempted to remember how to breath. Willow didn't have to ask, nor did she wonder, she already knew. The feeling in her stomach an hour earlier confirmed what she had been dreading. She couldn't move from her spot; her face grew hot as tears poured from her eyes all while watching her sister break down before her.

Once again, Willow was an orphan.

The funeral was beautiful just as Anastasia had planned. She occupied her grief with distracting herself with all the preparations. Everyone invited had attended, showing their respect and condolences to the girls and the rest of the family members. After the funeral, the girls were busy packing for their flights to Washington. Charlie didn't hesitate to order the custody agreements for them. He knew it would be a challenge, but a challenge he would accept any day.

Anastasia didn't have much to say these days, though she managed to keep a smile on her face. She hoped that the universe had something marvelous planned because this hell needs a purpose to get through.
