The Z Ring Legend: PokémonWattpad's Greatest Falloff

Hiii welcome to the first review of my review series! Starting with "The Z Ring Legend." Written by Jailen347.

This story didn't have much in the synopsis but I kept seeing it high on the rankings so I decided to check it out.

Part 1: The Beginning

The story opens with the main character Jailen, arriving to Alola from a plane with his dad. He's already got Scorbunny and Farfetch'd Galar. He meets 2 boys named Lenny and Declan. Not much happens but it's a solid introduction chapter. The next chapter gets even better with a battle between Jailen and Lenny. This battle is well choreographed with the beautiful gifs to go along with it. The battle is interrupted by the main rival, a boy named Lucian, who has a Kommo-o. Lucian interrupts the battle basically because it pissed him off that "weak" trainers were having a heated battle.

The story remains solid at this point. Small buildup chapters, decent filler, not too many battles but the story building is fine. Jailen catches a Sewaddle, and battles against Lucian's friend Miguel. Jailen is victorious in this battle and its a well written fight. However immediately after winning, Jailen fights Lucian's Garchomp and get destroyed. Here's where this issues with Lucian begins. There is NO reason for a rivalry between Lucian and Jailen. Lucian is leagues stronger and shouldn't even be paying a newbie any attention. We don't know his motivation for doing this either yet he still does it. It feels random and forced.

Part 2: Too much filler

This next chapter is fantastic. The best chapter of the story so far. It picks up where it left off, Jailen is depressed after losing to Lucian and meets up with a girl named Valerie. Valerie is learning how to battle and has a practice battle against Jailen. This battle is great, and shows the gap between experience from Jailen and Valerie. Then it ends with Valerie kissing Jailen on the cheek? Wait what? That came out of nowhere but it didn't take away from my enjoyment personally.

The next few chapters are some of the most random pointless filler. Declan catches a Litten but it's so random feels extremely forced. FINALLY school begins. I guess it's a school story? Took forever to get to this point, but here is where the story starts to heavily falloff.

Everyone arrives at school for entrance exams and the champion and an elite four member have an exhibition battle. The battle is random. Like why? This is just happening out of nowhere? The battle was mid as well. It's 2v2 but half of the battle gets cucked and doesn't even finish.

The entrance exam arc begins and this is where the story truly becomes bad. This arc is horrible. The battles are bad, the storytelling is bad. This is a bad arc. For example, Valerie loses her battle badly... yet still gets into the school? She gets to take special classes and this is the most plot armor bullshit ever.

Part 3: Final thoughts and score

"The Z Ring Legend" had such a solid start but wow what a fall off. The dialogue has always been bad but in the exam arc it's UNREADABLE. Absolute garbage. The gifs became lazy and so did the story itself. Final score: 4/10.
